Stash Report

orca-pieced borders

Lots of fabric passed under my needle this past week, but I didn’t get the borders attached to Orca Bay, so no fabric used. My only purchase was two batts, one for Orca Bay and one for a twin bed quilt I want/need to make after I finish the graduation quilt.

Most of the fabric for Orca Bay is counted already, but I’m wondering now if I’ll have time to quilt it Friday morning?

Stash Report

Yesterday was the day that I purchased the background fabric for my niece’s graduation quilt. 6 yards of Black Magic — a deep double dyed black that seems to resist gathering every piece of dust, dirt, fuzz and cat hair in the greater metropolitan area.  Which is good given that Butterscotch decided to take a nap on it.

The three bright FQs are my reward for knocking off 3 of the 10 projects on my Get ’em Done list (Scrappy Trips, Jared Takes a Wife and the Christmas BOM quilt top). Naturally I picked fabrics which will go into the graduation quilt.

I’m still piecing on the Orca Bay border, so officially no fabric was used this week.  Part of me says put up Orca Bay and get busy on the graduation quilt, but I think I’ll just start the graduation quilt with the black and bright 4-patches as my leader/enders.  Of course this means I’ll finally have to clear the cutting board off so I can cut fabric….

Stash Report

I’m in quilt assembly mode, so there’s been no new fabric used and I haven’t bought any fabric so my numbers aren’t changing. But that’s OK. I hope to have a finished top before too long.

Stash Report

Some piecing this week, but no fabric which I can count. The Star-A-Day quilt will all get counted when I finish the top in August (I’m thinking positively) and when I started Orca Bay I was counting as I went, but think I changed processes midstream. Even if I did, I won’t count what’s left until I finish the top.

I’m setting this to auto post as I’m not sure when I’ll get the computers hooked backup. We are going to do the desk and computer swap one more time, hopefully getting it right this time.

Stash Report

I’m running late with this post, as I’ve been rearranging the computer area in my office. I’ve got the computers back up, but there are boxes of stuff all over the place which still need to be unpacked.

I did not work on my scraps this week – except to generate more as I traced and cut out about 20 stars for my Star-a-Day project. I’m not sure that counts — but it did take me more than 30 minutes!

What’s On My Design Wall

Yesterday I put my Star-A-Day blocks up on the wall just so it wouldn’t be empty this week. Not that I didn’t work on other things last week (Scrappy Trips and “matching” pillowcase). Since the first of the month I’ve completed 8 new stars. I think I need to kick it in gear since I would like to make about 45 this month.

On the ironing board is Jared Takes A Wife.  I’m off to quilt it later this morning.

The Christmas BOM is the big news.  Saturday I got the borders on the quilt!  I’ve found the backing fabric in my stash.  Now I just have to figure out how I’m going to quilt it and what color thread to use. Needless to say, this quilt top is going to have to age a bit.

Stash Report

Yes, 9 yards of fabric was received in this past week.  But I got Scrappy Trips quilted and bound, made a pillowcase to go with it and put the borders on my Christmas BOM.  Which is just over 6 yards.  So there’s still more fabric in for the year than used, but  I’ll have another quilt top quilted & bound and a pillowcase by the end of the week  which should put me with more used than brought in – at least until I pick up the background fabric I’ve ordered for a new quilt.

As for the habit of working on my scraps for 30 minutes each week, I only got 15 minutes in this week. I suspect with another 15 minutes I won’t have room to store the shorter pieces in the box and will need to stop and cut them down.

Stash Report

Nothing in this week simply because it hasn’t arrived in the mail. Nothing out this week because I haven’t finished quilting the quilt.  — wait I forgot the pillowcase I made.

As for my new quilting habit I another 1/2 an hour last week working on the scrap bin.

I can actually see where the scraps are going down this week.  The plastic bag holds 2 1/2″ scraps as I’m currently focusing on the 2″ scraps.

habit-strips

The 2″ strip box is beginning to fill up as well.  Those pieces on the right will be sub-cut into bricks and blocks when I get the bottom of this box. I’m only keeping as strips anything longer than 12″.

Stash Report

It could have been worse.  I headed to the quilt shop Saturday morning with the intention of purchasing up to 14 yards of fabric — 5 1/2 yards of Magic Black, 3 1/2 yards of gold and 5 yards of fabric for a backing — if I could find something good on the clearance rack.  Instead I came home with 2-2/3 yards of fabric + a FQ for having completed my DWR.  The 2-2/3 yards of fabric was from the clearance rack — it was the last of the bolt of the fabric that I’m using for my alternate blocks in my Star-A-Day quilt.  I don’t think I’ll need it, but since it’s an older fabric and it was 75% off I decided I would buy it.

I got the binding stitched down on the batik quilt, so I’m starting off the year with just over 1/2 yard used.

As for my fabric goals this year?  I’m keeping it simple. Use more fabric than I purchase. Now if I can just stay away from the recycled shirts — that’s what got me last year.

Stash Report

Well — I really haven’t dropped off the face of the earth.  How many times have I said that this year?  I don’t think I worked on anything since I finished the Double Wedding Ring quilt until this past week. In the quilting slump I’m in, I might not have done anything, except I promised a quilt with a hard deadline. That quilt top was finished and quilted yesterday morning, but it still needs binding.

Since I last reported on my stash, I purchased no fabric until Friday afternoon — when I purchased two different backings for the latest quilt.  One which was OK, the 2nd which was spot on. Then I found out that a red paisley print I’ve been eying for what seems like forever had been marked down to $2.40 a yard. Believe it or not I only bought 2 yards.

So, here are the numbers for the last stash report of 2014.

Fabric Added Since Last Report 15.625 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 120.999 yards (92.45 is recycled)

Fabric Used Since Last Report: 10.181 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 109.456 yards

Net Increase in Stash to Date:  -103.993 yards

Did I use as much fabric as I’d like over the year? Not necessarily — but given that most of what I finished to the flimsy stage or completed were UFOs it’s not surprising.
