Music, a Walk, and Books

Tuesday my husband and I attended a talk and concert at the library. My husband wanted to hear David Amram speak. Mr Amram plays jazz and grew up knowing the jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Thelonious Month, and Miles Davis.  Wikipeida has a good article on him.  What we didn’t know is that after the talk he was performing with Victor & Penny. It was a great evening.

Wednesday may have been Valentine’s Day, but we did it low-key. I improvised spaghetti in my Instant Pot. Most of the recipes I’ve found say brown the meat, add the spaghetti, pour a jar of sauce over it all and add water.  Not having a jar of spaghetti sauce, I  used a dry season package — the type where you add water and tomato paste — or less water and tomato sauce. After we tasted it, we decided it needed more tomato. Turns out the 8 ounce can of tomato sauce was not enough tomato. I rummaged in the refrigerator and found a partial jar of pizza sauce which worked in a pinch. Afterwards, we walked the mall simply to get out of the house.

That brings us to books.  Do not turn us loose in Half Price Books. It’s dangerous.  I innocently pointed out a book on a cart at the drop off counter and walked on to the quilt books where I found 3 or 4 things but couldn’t remember if I owned them or simply had checked them out from the library.  My husband comes and finds me and says ‘let’s get out of here’ because he has 2 or 3 books in his hand and he hasn’t made it to the counter where they are holding a book for him. I follow him in a moment, only to discover the music section is between the quilting books and the cash register. If the section had been in the back we would have made it out of the store with fewer books. I’m looking forward to reading a couple of these myself.  But only after I get a bit more quilting done.

I’m still working on On Ringo Lake. I’m guessing I can start assembling blocks after another 30 minutes of piecing. I might even begin assembling the top this weekend.  No new picture of ORL, but here is a pic of last year’s En Provence.  I brought it home half quilted before Christmas and dumped it on the end of the ironing board.  Butterscotch has decided it makes a nice bed.

On the design wall in the background is my postage stamp quilt. Since this picture was taken I have one more block made bringing my total up to 24.
