Earlier this year I pulled out my scrappy 4-patches and a length of neutral fabric to make Scrappy Irish Chain from Adventures with Leaders & Enders by Bonnie Hunter. Sewing the connector units was my leader/ender project this past spring and summer. The project got put away when I realized I had sewn about 20 4-patches turned wrong and I needed more focus.
Why did I pull it out tonight? Well, the past couple of weeks I’ve focused on sampler blocks needing a lot of focus. The past couple of days I’ve avoided my sewing machine and I figured out why (other than I’ve been reading 9 of Mary Balogh‘s books since the first of the month – I was off work for 5 days). I needed something mindless to work on and something which might just become a top sooner than later (JT2, SBS and the Christmas BOM are those later projects).
So, I loaded the first CD of Steve Berry’s The Columbus Affair and started sewing. Two CDs later I have half of the 4-patches sewn to connector units – admittedly I started with the connector units already sewn to one of the 4-patches.
I’m looking forward to working on this quilt and listening to the book. Who know how much I’ll get done by the end of the book or how many 3″ spools blocks I’ll make as leader/enders.
Did you do the Bow ties Challenge? I’m still working on it. It is so nice to change to work on something that looks close to done when working on a long term project. Love the scrappiness. I’m not so good with ‘random’ assembly -I found out yesterday.
