Quilting Ideas for the Birthday Quilt

Birthday Quilt Top

Several years ago I participated in a birthday block exchange.  I was given the blue and white Pennsylvania blocks and combined them  yellow and blue stars I made.  The quilt  has been in the stack of tops waiting for quilting inspiration.  I also had to be certain the quilt did not want borders. It still has not told me what color binding it wants.

I found the perfect backing, believe it or not on the clearance aisle at Wal-mart.  Two 100% cotton 60 x 120 tablecloths.

I’ve decided I want to quilt feathers in the star blocks, but I’m at a loss on what to do in the setting triangles and Pennsylvania blocks.  This is what I have drawn so far.

It’s hard to see, but I’ve quilted feathers in the corners of the blocks.  I’m not sure what to put in the side triangles either. Does anyone have any ideas?

perfect find for the backing. i think i would do orange peel in the blues of the penn. blocks, and treat all the white with meandering type of filler…….perhaps some pebbles in the center blue of the penn. block……keeping it all fairly simple. nice, but simple.

  2. No ideas, but just have to stop by and tell you I like it! Deciding on the quilting is one of the hardest things I have to do…That is why I have so many just waiting.
