Quilting and Stuff by Knitnoid

Author Archives: Pam

I made my first quilted item as a visual aid for a math project in 7th grade. Over the next 25 years quilting was hit or miss, but quilting took over all the other crafts I've done in 2003.

Friday Shopping?

blackfridaySyd

I’m not one for Black Friday Shopping – I’m not into getting up at some early hour and waiting in the cold just to get a good price. However, my husband told me as we headed to bed last night he wanted to get up early to hit a sale. Fortunately by “early” he meant 7 AM.

Sure enough we were pulling in the parking lot at 7:30 AM and we got our $20 gadget for $5. He’s happy. Then he said he would go out with me. Naturally that meant the box fabric stores.  I needed border fabric and backing fabric for the red and black quilt and backing fabric for my Deadline Quilt. I can’t decide if I picked a good border fabric for the red and black quilt pictured above or not and there’s only 3 yards of fabric, so not really enough for a backing unless we get creative. (No, I didn’t take any of the quilts with me, I’m not sure what I was thinking.) We’ll see what happens.

The second fabric I fell in love with and thought it would be a good backing for my 3″ spools quilt.

My husband just looked at it and said yuk. So did one of my quilting buddies when she saw it. To me it’s perfect.  And at $3.49/yard I took the rest of the bolt. I couldn’t remember if 5 1/2 yards would be enough and there was only 6 1/4 or 6 1/2 yards left.

Then it was hubby’s turn again. We bought a snowblower off of Craigslist. One of the local weather forecasters is predicting several 8-inch snow falls, snow not melting between snow falls and a total of 30 inches of snow for the season.

After we dropped it off for a tune up, it was on to dinner at Outback (my pick) for our 28th Wedding Anniversary.

All in all, a great day in the company of the man I love.

Remembered the Pillowcase

Well, not really. It just happened that I had enough leftover fabric from Deadline Project II to make one.  The quilt top is complete, the binding made, the larger pieces of left over fabric is put away and the pattern is off to be tested. Now I just need to put away the smaller scraps and get it quilted and bound.

She’s Been Piecing Again

I think there is a young man who is going to get a quilt for Christmas. His sister spent the weekend piecing this top. Now the question is it big enough and how/who will quilt it.

A Day’s Piecing

AugC11_25a

It really wasn’t a day’s worth of piecing — I worked on another project, cooked dinner, watched DWTS & Castle and periodically goofed off. But you see here 62 blocks with one more piece attached.

I finished the 63rd block (or was it the first) to make sure I had everything cut right.

The block measures 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ unfinished – I forgot to add that to the cheat sheet I did for this quilt.  The cheat sheet can be found HERE.

What’s On My Design Wall

It doesn’t look like much, but I’m making headway on my red, white & blue quilt. I have about half of the red squares assembled, then it will be on to the corner squares.

Eventually, I’ll put together a pattern with full directions, but in the meantime, I’ve put together a cheat sheet which can be viewed HERE.

Now There’s Three…

augC11-19

Quilts in “active” progress. The leader/ender project of black and neutral 2-patches for Bricks and Stepping Stones, Deadline Project 2 and “August Quilt C”.  I really need a better name for it.  It was the 3rd quilt I designed in August.

In between sets of stitching for the deadline project (currently called “September Quilt A”) I added side triangles to a stack of 10 squares.  Every once in a while I would stitch a 2-patch. I now have 50 of them in my knitting bucket.

Goofing Off

QuiltC

I have a deadline I need to meet. So what do I do? Spend the evening cutting the fabric for this quilt I drew in EQ back in August.

It wasn’t all goofing off – I did work on the deadline project, but obviously didn’t get as much done as I perhaps should have.  I’ll see about making it up tonight.

What’s On My Design Wall

dw1118

This is obviously not my design wall – it’s all I can show of what I’ve been working on this past weekend. 45 2-inch 2-patches all made as leader/enders. I’ll need 288 2-patches, so perhaps this project will last me a bit.

See what others are up to over at Patchwork Times.

Stash Report

Nothing in and nothing out this week. Perhaps I’ll be able to finish Deadline Project 2 in time for next week’s report.

Fabric Added Since Last Report: 0 yards
Fabric Added To Date: 164.037
Fabric Used Since Last report: 0 yards
Fabric Used To Date: -50.146

The Next Leader/Ender Project

LE

After pondering a bit I’ve settled on my next leader/ender project – Bricks and Stepping Stones. I don’t have enough 2″ squares cut, but there are enough to keep me going for a while. When all of the 4-patches are made I’ll worry about the 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ bricks.
