I suppose technically, it’s just shy of half of the quilt top as there are 7 rows in the bottom half. Here’s the 3rd section ready to be stitched together. (The white squares are tags with a letter or number so I know where to put the block.)
What’s On My Design Wall
I’ve started sewing blocks into rows for the Green Disappearing 9-Patch. This is 1/4 of the blocks. Since Monday is a travel day for the Royals, there won’t be a baseball game to distract me after work and I could get this top finished. That is unless we end up going through the clutter in the basement, in which case I’ll carve out enough time to at least get this section done and the next one up on the wall.

Stash Report
I didn’t get the Green Disappearing 9-Patch finished this past week, but it’s closer. The last 13 blocks have the 3-patches stitched together so unless I have to work last this week, I should have the top done by the next report. Who knows, I might even have a backing pieced — although I now need a 4th shirting backing for my Nifty Thrifty quilt, so I may still be cutting squares this time next week.
On the other hand, I received a pile of beautiful hand dyed scraps – just under a pound of them, so those get added to my total.

The Challenge Is On
Several years ago I was challenged to finish 6 quilts in the space of about 4 months and the count ultimately rose to 13. Some of those quilts are in the photo at the top of the page. Most were tops, but I was in the middle of piecing a few and one I started from scratch.
Well, today I’m challenging myself to completely finish at least 7 quilts by the end of the year. The six quilts pictured above plus the Green Disappearing 9-patch that I’ve been working on for the past few weeks. The only catch is that I’ll be piecing the backings for at least 5 of the quilt tops — 8 1/2″ finished squares of shirting fabric for the 4 shirting quilts and a similarly pieced backing for the pink floral. I may have a wide black backing for the quilt with the bright green strip – if not I’ll buy it since it’s 103″ square and quite frankly I have no idea what I’ll do for the orange quilt on the end.
Four and a half months. I should be able to get this done. Right?
Gorgeous Fabrics
My photo doesn’t do these fabrics justice. These are gorgeous fabrics. They were hand dyed by Vicki Welsh. She sells her fabrics in her Etsy Store. I received these by way of a drawing from participants in her UFO Busting Challenge.
They arrived yesterday in the mail. It was a wonderful pick-me-up. I stayed up late Wednesday night to watch the meteor shower and then Thursday was one crises after another at work and back-to-back conference calls. Midday I had about 5 minutes which I used to check the mail. I opened the package and exclaimed “These are gorgeous!” I think I said that 4 or 5 times before I got back to my office a the other end of the house. I know I heard my husband say “You said that already” at least once.
I cannot wait to use these fabrics. But I think I’m going to pet them for a while. They are gorgeous!
What’s On My Design Wall
A little bit of progress. This is the stack of 3-patches for 13 of the big 9-patches. After I get these made, I still have 13 more to make. I think tonight I’ll listen to the ballgame instead of watching it on television and see if I can make any progress on this quilt.

Stash Report
I think all I did last week was press the ten 9-patches for the Green Disappearing 9-Patch. I didn’t even cut them. Needless to say that means no fabric out – or in for that matter. In fact other than groceries, my ‘big’ purchase was Books 1 – 7 of the Outlander series for my Kindle when it was on sale for $1.99.
So here’s the report — same as last week.

UFO Busting Report
It’s time to report on our UFO progress. It seems like I didn’t get anything done except the yard, but looking at my notes, I did make some progress.
I completed the Red Disappearing 9-Patch quilt top that I cut out in late May, and I’ve stitched together 10 of the 36 green 9-patches I need for the Green Disappearing 9-Patch. The pile of large squares (50 of them) will be used to make the backing for the 3 Disappearing 9-Patch quilt tops. I still need to cut another 270 squares!
July 1st I joined in the Bonnie Hunter Tumbler Challenge. But my total count has not changed as I crossed off Rectangle Wrangler as I repurposed the 2-1/2″ strips I had cut it into tumblers.
So, my numbers are as follows:
- # Project In Process July 1 – 63
- # Projects Completed – 0
- # new project started – 1
- # UFOs re-purposed – 1
- # projects in process July 30 – 63
My goal this month is to get all three of the Disappearing 9-patch quilts finished now that the yard work is done. We’ll see if it happens.

What’s On My Design Wall
A week’s vacation where we stayed at home and I managed to get 10 very large 9-patches made, but not pressed. That’s all on the quilting front. I didn’t even get any squares for the quilt back cut. Needless to say, I didn’t bother with a stash report yesterday — nothing in nothing out.
So what did I get done? The house is clean. The laundry is nearly caught up. I fed a crew of 10 Saturday before last and 11 this past Saturday and ALL of the brush is hauled off!
My husband has spent the last two summers working on the back yard, reclaiming it from the jungle it had become. This summer alone we hauled off 7 loads – a F250 with a 5′ x 8′ flatbed trailer – of brush. Now we get to work on rebuilding it. Primarily seeding it so it is easier to care for. You should be able to click on the picture below to see the yard before and after.
I hope this week to get back to the sewing machine. I have a quilt to finish, backings to make and quilts to quilt!
