What’s on My Design Wall

The wall is bare except for the birthday blocks which won’t go out until later in the month. I took down the cat panel to take to the hospital to show my mom.

The picture above is from mom’s quilt. The one I need to have finished by Thursday. All the quilting is done except for the snowballs. What I wanted and what I’m quilting in the snowball blocks are different. I simply haven’t had the time or energy to do anything more complicated. I’ve got 15 more snowball blocks to quilt then I can bind, label and wash the quilt. Since Mom is doing so much better, I shouldn’t have to spend as much time at the hospital this week and it will be ready for her 70th birthday on Thursday.

What’s On My Design Wall

I’m still working on the birthday quilt, specifically the borders. But in the meantime, I still have the swap blocks up on the design wall and the Caterwauling panel.

Not that I’m going to rush into this anytime soon, but I’m thinking about how I want to use the panel. At the moment, I’m considering cutting the blocks apart and then setting them with black and white pieced blocks with a splash of color. Now what blocks is the question. I’m leaning toward blocks with a ‘cat themed’ name. My husband also suggested looking up our cat’s names. That provided entertainment for a few minutes last night.

What’s On My Design Wall

Dancing Flowers came down without any additional work since I needed the wall to work on mom’s quilt. A day or two ago I put all of my completed red work blocks on the wall to see how many I’ve got completed. I’ve started a 5th block, but when I finish it, I’ll need to trace off more blocks.

What’s On My Design Wall

This is one of the blocks from Dancing Flowers that is on my design wall. I have a picture of all the blocks I have done, but it’s on my external hard drive and I’m not at home so can’t get the picture.

This is the 2nd UFO I want to finish this year. I took an on-line class from QuiltCampus in early 2007. Yes, this is applique, and “I do not applique”. At the time I was thinking about setting some black and bright swap blocks with a vertical sashing strip with appliqued flowers. I’ve since changed my mind, but this quilt was already started. There are four blocks with appliqued flowers and the cornerstones have appliqued hearts. I have two of the blocks and the cornerstones completed. Most of the pieces are cut out and prepped for the other two blocks.

Before I do any more work on this quilt though, I need to finish the quilt I started Saturday. So in the meantime I’ll leave this on the wall and consider what I’m going to use for sashing. When I get home, I’ll try to remember to post the other picture.

What’s On My Design Wall

Today, it’s really  what’s NOT on my design wall.  My wall is empty — I took down Ladder to the Stars because I needed the hangers to take a picture of “Music Lessons”  (alternatively know as Ted’s quilt;  Music Stars; and  the music quilt).  I finished it last night and took it out of the dryer a little while ago.

It even has a label.

There is a new tab for my 2010 finishes. I hope this is the first of many UFOs I finish this year.

What’s On My Design Wall

Technically, I still have Ladders to the Stars hanging on my design wall.  However, for this week’s report I’m showing that I’ve gotten my Double Wedding Ring into the frame.

I basted with a combination of basting spray and #1 pins.  There are spots which simply don’t lay flat.  This was never intended to be a show quilt, so I’m OK with that.  Or maybe I simply want it done, so I’m willing to over look things.  Either way, I plan on starting the quilting this evening.  My plan is to spend 30 minutes a day on this quilt.

The music quilt is up next.I’ll baste it tonight so I can start the machine quilting.  I’d like to have it finished by next week, to take to the guild meeting but I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll get it done.  Saturday is my nephew’s wedding to no quilting then, but I’ll have all day Monday instead to work on it.  Of course the Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler BOW will be announced.  I’ll need to get that worked in by Sunday night.  I’m thinking something is not going to get done.

This will be especially true if I spend much time checking out other quilters’s design walls by following the links over at Patchwork Times.

What’s On My Design Wall

Today, it’s really “What’s on my Sewing Table?”  Yesterday after getting something to drink, reading several chapters in my book, cooking dinner, doing a couple of loads of laundry and shoveling snow, I sat down at my sewing machine to get tough with myself.

I won’t say the 4-patches are perfect, but then that can be said about the entire quilt top, but they are done.  Now, on to the 3-patches along the outer edge of the quilt.   I’ve done one side, so I think there’s 18 left to do, plus one corner 2-patch.

What’s On My Design Wall? – 12/28

Another week where I am recycling an old photo. There’s nothing on my design wall this morning.

I finished Raising Cane yesterday and I don’t want to start anything new. Not that I don’t have plenty to work on. My goals for the rest of the year are to get the borders on Ladder to the Stars and finish the rest of those seams on the DWR. I’m not sure what’s up with the DWR.

So last night, instead of doing either of these tasks, or even working on step 3 of Carolina Christmas I was playing with WordPress to see if I would like it better than Blogger. I like the idea of pages and with WordPress I can upload PDF files. So this may be my last Design Wall post from Blogger.

But I will not work on it any more until I get the DWR ready to baste! Keep reminding me of this. I really want this quilt on our bed by the end of November.

What’s On My Design Wall? – 12/21

I am recycling an old photo. There’s nothing on my design wall this morning.

Today I hope to finish the quilting on the 4-Patch Race Car quilt. I had tension issues yesterday and ended up ripping out everything I put in. Once that’s done, I have a pillowcase to make, and maybe one of those bulletin boards with ribbon.

Nothing like last minute quilting.

What’s On My Design Wall? – 12/7

I took my swap blocks down Saturday, so there wasn’t anything on the wall until I put Autumn Splendor up there for a photo shoot. Yesterday I finished sewing on the inner borders, and then cut the fabric for the outer borders binding. That’s 2 of my 4 yards to get me to 100 yards used for the year.
