Quilting and Stuff by Knitnoid

Stash Report

The numbers are jumping on my stash report today.  Both in and out.

First, I finished the top for Deadline Project 2 and made the matching pillowcase and binding so that’s a chunk for the fabric used category.  But then I hit – 4 fabric shops – 2 of them twice over the Black Friday and Shop Small weekend. In my defense, they are purchases to finish three quilts — backing and borders — although I will admit that perhaps I didn’t need to buy quite and much of each fabric….

There was the black and red for Syd’s quilt. Good quality fabric on sale for $3.39 a yard and there was only 3 yards on the bolt.  It will either become the backing and we’ll use most of it, or it will be the border and there will be a good bit of it left.  But this goes into Syd’s stash and I’m not counting in mine unless she gives it back to me.

At the same stop I bought the much maligned orange paisley for the back of the Spool quilt.  I was almost positive 5 1/2 yards would be enough, but decided to get 6, but there was 6 1/2 on the bolt, so I took the rest.  Again this was the $3.49 a yard fabric.  I ended up paying only $3.14 a yard since I had a 10% off the entire purchase coupon.  It’s a good thing I don’t run into sales like this often.

Finally there is the backing for Deadline Project 2. Since it’s a wide backing I should have been able to get away with just 2 1/4 yards (converted to 6 yards for tracking purposes), but I sometimes have issues with the fabric rolled on the bolt off grain and need nearly 1/3 of a yard to straighten it. So, I bought 2 3/4 yards to make sure I don’t have any issues (converts to 7 yards, 15 inches).

At least one of these quilts will be quilted before the end of the year, but I don’t know if I’ll get both done. I’m pretty sure I’m done with my fabric purchases for the year. And I’ll have at least one more quilt top finished, so my numbers will go down.

So, here are the numbers:

Fabric added since the last report: 13.925 yards
Fabric added year to date: 177.962 yards
Fabric used since the last report: 8.125 yards
Fabric used to date: 122.016 yards
Net stash: -55.946

Love the setting on your spool quilt. I always find it hard to calculate the wide backings into regular yards. Hope you are able to get both quilts finished this month.
