Quilting and Stuff by Knitnoid

Decision Time

The center of the row quilt is complete.  Now I need to decide how wide to make my spacer white border.  I think I want a bit of separation between the edge of the red squares and the inner green border.  The outer border will be the same fabric as the red squares.

These blocks are from a block swap I participated in back in November 2008 on the Quilt in A Day forum.  Unless someone in the family claims it when it’s done, I think I’ll use it on our bed.  Believe it or not, I don’t have a bed size Christmas quilt.  Of course, who know when it will get quilted.  But first I’ve got that decision to make.

What’s On My Design Wall

Today it’s more like ‘What’s Hanging From My Design Shelves”.  I’ve got one more of the Flying Dutchmen blocks ready to do, but it’s not the next one in line.  So, two more blocks to be sashed and attached then I can sew the center of the quilt together.

A little over a week ago I pulled out the slip of paper which said “Make 18 Square in  Square blocks”  – which was the next step on this quilt.  I’ve done a bit more than that, and currently its my plan to finish the top before I pull another slip.  I’ve not abandoned the bag, but it has done it’s job.  I was able to kick-start my quilting this month.

Stash Report

Week before last I won a FQ for Bingo and it arrived this week.  A deep peach.  Other than that I’ve stayed out of the quilt shops – which has given me plenty of time to work on my Christmas Row quilt.  I have 4 of the five rows completed and just need to sash three more blocks of the 5th row.  This quilt top just might get completed this month. Oh, I also get to count the backing and binding of the baby quilt I finished early in the week.

Another Quilting Gallery Entry

The theme for this week’s Quilting Gallery contest is Beach and See Quilts.

I entered my Neutral Strip Twist because when I finished it I was looking for a name with “sand”  in the title.  I never did get a name on the quilt before I gave it to my nephew and his wife, but for this contest it’s called “Sand Twists”.  This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern that is available HERE.

Check out the other quilts entered this week and then vote for your favorite.

Row 1 Done

Actually, this will be row 3.  4 more rows to go.

On A Roll

I’m on a roll.  My challenge was to make 18 of the 36 red and white square in a square blocks.  These will be the cornerstones in my Christmas Row Quilt.  When I was writing out the steps I hemmed and hawed about whether or not to do 18 twice or to do all 36.  I decided to go with 18 because I can’t make a good Square in a Square block without a lot of ripping, muttering and finally deciding ‘that will just have to do’.

Clearly I can’t say that any more.  I followed Bonnie Hunter’s Square in a Square Tutorial and the blocks came out nearly perfect.  Thank you Bonnie!

Since I’m on this roll, I think I’ll keep working on this quilt top.  I’ll save my bag of UFO Quilt Steps until I need a change.

What’s On My Design Wall

It’s another finish.  This my UFO for August off of the “To Be Quilted” list.  Now on to those red and white square in a square blocks.  The fabric is washed and there is no other pressing quilting commitment.

Stash Report

Last week I focused on my UFOs so no new fabric was purchased.  Saturday night I started quilting another baby quilt, so I’m counting the backing and binding (which I’ve already made).

Procrastination Challenge – Report 2

Yes, I’ve finally finished the seam on the back of the Green and Cream quilt. Of course there are three more rows to do, but the challenge was just to ‘finish partial finished rows‘.  I can now in good conscience set this aside and do something else from my bag of  “UFO Quilt Steps”.

I promise this was not rigged.  Well, admittedly I didn’t put the next step of the Green and Cream quilt in the bag until I pulled the next challenge, but still.  Since I finally settled on a design for the Row Quilt and bought the fabric last week, I’ve been itching to work on this quilt.  I knew if I had the fabric washed, I couldn’t hold back, so now I’ve got to wash the fabric so I can start making those square in a square blocks.

Of course I’ve not totally focused on the Cream and Green quilt.  I was supposed to be quilting the Crossword Puzzle quilt, but got stymied when I discovered the backing scrunched.  So I worked on Mom’s Chain of Stars, this month’s UFO.

Yesterday I decided to quilt the Crossword Puzzle quilt on the longarm and now have a rental appointment.  But what to do with the sticky batting?  Cut it up and work on baby quilts.  Mom’s Chain of Stars is now quilted, bound and labeled.

Since I need to wait for the Row Quilt fabric to wash, I’m going to see about quilting another baby quilt. I still have a lot of sticky batting.

Mom’s Chain of Stars

I finished the top.  In the morning I think I’ll quilt it.
