Quilting and Stuff by Knitnoid

A Few More Blocks

orca0204

I really need my design wall back–it’s hard to see what’s really going on with the blocks flapping. There’s enough room to add another 10 blocks, but I need to put up 26 blocks. To that end, I finally emptied the 2nd big crate and found the missing W-2! Guess who is doing taxes this weekend?

I’m using the 1st crate to gather up extra computer parts and other stuff which shouldn’t live in my room.  Note – there are no pictures of the flat surfaces in the room. There’s a reason for that, but it’s not as bad as it has been/can be.

Orca Bay Wednesday

Sometimes a girl just needs to sneak in a few minutes at the sewing machine.  I still can’t get to the design wall, so I found a length of flannel and pinned it to my shelves and the blocks to the flannel.  But have no fear, I am working through this mess.

Here’s Butterscotch inspecting the bin I had just emptied.  Gracie it seems is camera-shy.

What’s On My Design Wall

dw0202-2

I still can’t get to my design wall, but the Great Desk replacement has entered its final phase.  Both computers are set back up I have more desk surface and drawers, the air vent is not blocked and the wires are basically corralled.  The only major thing left is to get a keyboard tray mounted to the bottom of the black desk — we’ve got one but didn’t find it when we were looking this weekend.

Believe it or not, I still got a bit of sewing in last week.

dw0202-1

All of the Orca Bay blocks have the sashing attached to the left side of the block and the cornerstones have been sewn to most of the sashing. I’ve simply have a few blocks laid out on the ironing board.

The rest of the week will be spent unloading the boxes, arranging stuff in the new file drawers, finding a spot for the recycling and trash cans and hanging the wall hanging backup. Hopefully I’ll get a bit of sewing in as well.

Stash Report

Some piecing this week, but no fabric which I can count. The Star-A-Day quilt will all get counted when I finish the top in August (I’m thinking positively) and when I started Orca Bay I was counting as I went, but think I changed processes midstream. Even if I did, I won’t count what’s left until I finish the top.

I’m setting this to auto post as I’m not sure when I’ll get the computers hooked backup. We are going to do the desk and computer swap one more time, hopefully getting it right this time.

January 350 Block Report

I thought  I was aiming for 31 blocks (which I missed) but I read over at Prairie Moon Quilts we only needed 20 this month.  So, what did I get done?

  • Two Christmas BOM blocks (which I forgot to photograph separately)bomblocks
  • A hug block which I forgot to photograph before sending it off
  • Six Alphabet BOM blocksBlocks 1-6
  • 15 Star-A-Day blocksstars-15
  • and fixed 16 String Geese (had to re-attach the “sky”) I’m counting these as 4.orcageese

So, for January, I have 28 blocks.  For February, I hope to get the Orca Bay top finished, start making blocks for a graduation quilt and get at least 28 more stars done.

Pop over to Prairie Moon Quilts and check the comments to see how others are doing.

UFO Busting Link Up

It’s the end of the month and time to report my UFO Busting Progress.

  • # of Projects in Process January 1st: 69
  • # of Projects Completed: 3
  • # of New Projects Started: 0
  • # of Projects in Process January 31st: 66

The three projects are Jewels in the Night — it just needed the binding stitched down;  Scrappy Trips which needed quilting; and Jared Takes a Wife which also needed quilting.
Additionally I worked on 4 other UFOs. I finished the Christmas BOM quilt top; the rest of the Alphabet BOM blocks; and made 15 stars for my Star-A-Day quilt (as of 1/29).  Finally, I’ve pulled out the Orca Bay box and have started attaching the sashing to the blocks.
Above all, I’ve managed to not start anything new!
I’m linking up with Vicki Welsh‘s 2015 .

Orca Bay Wednesday

orcageese

116 string geese are ready to become sashing in my Orca Bay quilt a Quiltville Mystery from several years ago.  That little pile on the right need to be fixed as they in no way measure 3-1/2″ x 6-1/2″.  I’m going to have to dig my sewing machine out from the office mess to fix them. My best guess is it will be another couple of weeks before the office is in order again.  We are still tweaking the desk area.

What’s On My Design Wall

dw0126

This week all I’ve accomplished with needle and thread is 3 new stars (which still need pressing). What can I say? Tuesday afternoon I started tearing the office space apart in preparation for a “new desk”.  Well, that and to clean up some broken glass.

I think I’ve finally got all of the glass up and the computers are hooked back up. But there are still boxes to unpack and stuff to put away.  There are boxes are piled up in front of the design wall

and on the cart.

Flat surfaces are piled high.

But the quilting books are now on the bookshelf that I swapped out. The wall hanging will need to be moved.

Others hung back up.

I can however say with certainty neither the ironing or cutting boards are piled with stuff. The only decision I have to make now is if this new arrangement is going to work for me.  I’ll try it out for a week and in the meantime, put what I can away.

Hopefully there will be better eye candy through some of the other links over at Patchwork Times.

Stash Report

I’m running late with this post, as I’ve been rearranging the computer area in my office. I’ve got the computers back up, but there are boxes of stuff all over the place which still need to be unpacked.

I did not work on my scraps this week – except to generate more as I traced and cut out about 20 stars for my Star-a-Day project. I’m not sure that counts — but it did take me more than 30 minutes!

Prepping Stars

star-cut9

Earlier this week the modem took a nose dive off the bookshelf and fell on a just emptied glass, breaking it. Why is this important? Because it means I’ve torn my office/sewing room apart to get behind the desks to clean up the bits and pieces. But moving the big desk will be easier with two people – especially since I want to switch some furniture out, so the final push won’t happen until this weekend.  Meanwhile, I can’t get to the sewing machine so I’ve been working on my Star-a-Day blocks.

Tonight, instead of stitching a block, I prepped stars.  This is some of the fabric I picked back in November. I finally sat still long enough to trace the pieces off and cut them out.  I need to find my alternate square fabric and cut a few squares, but all the star pieces are ready now for 9 more blocks.  At the moment I have 73 stars made.
