What’s On My Design Wall

The Design Floor had Oklahoma Backroads on it for a photo. It’s in 8 pieces and I’ve got it pinned for the next 4 seams. Later this week I think I’ll be asking for advice on a border. Right now I’m leaning toward no border and a red binding — the same red that I used as the cornerstones in my Texas Braid.

On the Design Wall I have 6 blocks from Row A of Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler. I hope having them up on the wall will encourage me to get the other four blocks from Row A done sooner than later.

SBS Block

The challenge this month for the SBS_Offline_Quilters is 5 blocks from Row A. If I complete the challenge this month, I’ll have the entire row completed as I already have 5 blocks done. The other four I have left to complete are A4 – Posies ‘Round the Square, A6 – Tennessee and A7 – Cats and Mice, and A8 – Star of the Orient.

Stash Report

If you’ve been following Bonnie Hunter’s blog you know that last week she was in Kansas City visiting area quilt guilds. I met Bonnie in May when she was at the Kaw Valley Quilt Guild in Lawerence, Kansas, which is where I met also met Marci. Marci invited me to visit the Nitetime Needlers Quilt Guild and last Thursday I did, where – yes – Bonnie Hunter was the guest speaker.

So what does this have to do with a Stash Report? At the end of the meeting I won one of the door prizes! (Or maybe my husband did – he gave me his ticket at the break). The items pictured above were in my bag. That FQ is the only fabric I brought into the house this week. But it’s a wash as I made the KVQG BOM last night.

KVQG BOM – Block 2

The Kaw Valley Quilters Guild meeting is Monday, so this evening I pulled the fabrics and made this month’s block. The BOM is called Jewels in the Crown and it’s by Reeze Hanson of Morning Glory Designs.

Quilting Funk

I don’t know if it’s the heat or the clean sewing room, but I’ve not wanted to quilt. That’s not to say I haven’t been working on the Double Wedding Ring in spite of the heat – but no machine piecing.

My husband gave this puzzle to me for Christmas. I started working on it, but then put it up unfinished. I wasn’t able to focus on it since the sewing machine was calling me. So, this week, since I couldn’t sit still long enough to piece, I pulled out the puzzle and started on it again.

It took a week, but it’s done now. I stayed up late and finished it. So, now it goes back in the box.

And I think it broke my quilting funk. I’m ready to finish Oklahoma Backroads.

QA Wednesday

Last week’s goals

Finish quilting and bind the 1000 Pyramids – DONE
Every day quilt on my DWR. – 6 of the 7 days
Clean the sewing room. – DONE

It’s a good thing I didn’t have much more planned. I’ve been rather listless. I think it’s the clean house and sewing room – I don’t want to mess anything up. It has however afforded me plenty of time to work on the DWR.

I’ve got the DWR in a laundry basket and it sits beside my recliner with a basket of supplies on the table (I don’t pretend to be a decorator). In the evenings I watch the summer dramas on either USA or TNT and quilt. With the new hoop, my wrists aren’t giving me as much trouble as I was having on the floor frame. I think it’s because I can change positions more easily.

So what’s up for this week?

Continue working on the DWR. I need to complete a ring every two days if I’m to finish this quilt by November.
Make the this month’s KVQG block – the meeting is Monday!
Make at least one Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler block – 4 or 5 would be better.
Make progress on Oklahoma Backroads. I have all the blocks sewn together in pairs

99 Pyramids

99 Pyramids. Back in April 2008 I took a class to learn how to use my Wonder Cut Triangle Ruler. I quickly finished up the front and then pieced together a scrappy backing and binding from the leftover pyramids and green fabric.

At one point I even had this quilt quilted — but the tension was really bad, not to mention the quilting design didn’t work as expected, so I ripped the quilting out. It wasn’t very hard given the bad tension. A couple of weekends ago I decided the quilt had aged appropriately (that, and I have a great-nephew on his way sometime this month) and this quilt needed to be quilted.

There’s lots of love pieced and quilted in to this quilt and it will be great for dragging around when the baby gets big enough to drag it. Most importantly it has no pink in it. My niece told me she “hates pink!”. As soon as the baby get’s here I’ll add a label and get it to my niece – not that there’s a big hurry — there’ a heat warning through Thursday.

Oklahoma Backroads Blocks

Yesterday’s plan was to work on Star Struck. However, in cleaning up the sewing room, I found a stack of blocks that needed to be contained in a project box. I grabbed an unlabeled box and found my Oklahoma Backroads blocks. I finished up the last 20 blocks, so now I’m ready to start sewing them together.

I started working on this quilt as a leader/ender project back in October. It is a Bonnie Hunter pattern that you can find here.
