40 Day Challenge – Day 22

Today I made 2 pillowcases.  I only have a picture of one and they are in the dryer along with the quilt.

Since my sister has arrived for the weekend, I’m in the process of setting up a sewing area in my living room. I need to track down a power strip and then I’ll be good to go.  On tap for this weekend is Frolic. I’d love to have all of my blocks completed before the weekend is over.

40 Day Challenge – The Halfway Point

Yes, Tuesday marked the 1/2 way point in my self-imposed 40 day challenge.

Here’s a recap.

  1. Bind the table runner, Narragansett Blues, and a customer quilt. Bonus pillowcase.
  2. Catch up on Star Studded BOM (still need to do the June block), bind Sister Swap # 3 and Then & Now.
  3. Bonus pillow case for On Ringo Lake, quilt Log Cabin quilt,  Good Fortune bonus pillowcase
  4. Not pictured – Hem 8 pair of pants with cuffs for my niece’s wedding next month.

I still need to bind the log cabin quilt. Sewing the binding strips together was today’s progress, and I hope to have the quilt finished before the end of the week.  This weekend my sister is coming over to use both the long arm and my sewing machine to attach binding to quilts, so I’ll be using my Genie to resume piecing Frolic. Then next week, I’ll see about binding Allietare.

Looking at what is left on my list, I’m pretty sure I can meet all of my goals, with the possible exception of the Frolic top.  But if I miss it, it shouldn’t be by much. Then it will be on to the next challenge — which I’m already thinking about.

40 Day Challenge – Day 19

It’s day 19 and have finished all but 1 of the Star Studded blocks I have in my possession.  I’m not fond of paper piecing, but I’m even less fond of hand stitching and applique which is what the next block includes.  I’ve finished 7 12-inch blocks which is what I started with at the beginning of the challenge, but I suppose I really need to do that 10th block before I mark this as complete.

Today during the Facebook Live event Stitch-On Needlework did, they showed this pattern. I’m not sure what it is that I like about it.  My original plan was to go swing by and pick it up this weekend, but my sister was on her way to the shop and offered to bring it to me. That saved me money, not only for the gas, but for whatever I would have ended up buying while in the shop.  I still have 2 patterns and the fabric to make a quilt and a wall hanging that I bought last summer that I haven’t even started.  Perhaps that will be my next challenge.

Up next really needs to be the binding on the log cabin quilt. My sister is coming over this weekend to use the longarm and while she’s here she wants to use my sewing machine to attach the binding to the 4 quilts she’s quilting since she can’t find the walking foot for her machine.  That means binding needs to occur before Friday.  While she’s here, if the weather is good I hope to get pictures of some of the quilts and I guess I’ll spend the weekend working on Frolic and assorted pillowcases.

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.

40 Day Challenge – Day 13

Day 13 – I finished up the 2nd set of 6-inch blocks, then decided I wanted to make some pillowcases so when I wash the quilts I can wash the cases. I’ll put the clean quilt in their respective case then in the closet since my quilt cabinet is full.

First is On Ringo Lake. There are a few extra seams in this case as I only had a 20-ish by 108″ piece of backing, a FQ of the brown and maybe a 36″ x 14″ piece of the cuff material. But I made it work.

Good Fortune is the quilt I bought the butterfly backing for but when I saw this fabric I knew it had to be the backing.  Apparently I bought enough of it for two pillowcases, but failed to get enough of the pink. I was out of town when I bought the fabric, I ordered additional pink fabric and either the name on my original receipt was wrong, I ordered the wrong pink or I was sent the wrong pink. I didn’t discover that until tonight, so there is just one pillowcase. It only has 1 extra seam as apparently I started using the accent fabric as a neutral in my Frolic.

The orange blue in the lower right corner is Sherbert. She decided she had to be right where I was taking pictures.

Here’s the current status:

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.

40 Day Challenge Day 9

Yesterday my sister came over to quilt a baby quilt, so I had to clear off the quilting machine, again. Although I don’t think I’ll leave the leaf of my sewing table up on a regular basis, it did prove to be a great place to stack the various projects I have going. From the front to the back. On the bottom of the first pile is Allietare. On top of it is the binding fabric, the baby/doll quilt to bind and fabric for the bonus pillowcases. The middle pile is the quit which I need to label and the logcabin quilt. Leaning against the last pile is my Star Studded BOM. The last pile are quilts which need to be washed and photographed. Next to the sewing machine is pair #6 of the pants which need to be hemmed.

I only got one pair of pants hemmed yesterday. I got a bit distracted.

Acrylic Pour videos have been popping up on my Facebook timeline. I saw one by Mixed Media Girl where she used supplies from the Dollar Store  and thought that would be an inexpensive way to try out the technique. This is my first attempt.

Today after I run to Fedex to ship a package, I’m going to do my best to finish the hemming so I can cross it off my list.  I may load the log cabin quilt and while it’s quilting I think I’ll work on the BOM. It would be nice if I had a few more blocks done before I picked up this month’s kit.

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.

  • Although not quilting, there are 9 8 pair of pants which need to be shortened.

40 Day Challenge – Day 8

Narragansett Blues is complete. As soon as I wash it, I’ll take it out to hang on the line for it’s official portrait and do a complete post on the quilt.

Nothing else was done on the list. My sister was given the OK to travel so she’s coming over in the morning to use the quilting machine. I’ve got to clear it off.  At least this time it’s quilting related stuff and not household goods.

  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.

40 Day Challenge – Day 7

Day 7 of the challenge had me sewing the binding strips together for Narragansett Blues before work and then ripping them out and sewing them together correctly before attaching the binding to the quilt after work. No pants were hemmed tonight.

The status report stands as it did after Day 6.

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020

40 Day Challenge – Day 6

Not much happened on the quilting front.  I cut the binding for Narragansett Blues, then hemmed 2 pair of pants. I cleaned up a bit of batting and backing from recent quilts, and tracked down some of the fabric for those “bonus”

Here’s what is left to do:

40 Day Challenge – Day 5

Yesterday I decided how I’m going to bind for Narragansett Blues. I’ll use the blue backing fabric for the binding with the gold as the flange. But that’s not all I did.

I unpacked 2 boxes from the office. I haven’t posted about the changes I’ve made in the living room.  I painted, put in new flooring, purchased a new sofa and recliner and rearranged the furniture.  All of this required moving everything out of the living room and dinning room.  I think there were 32 small moving boxes of books and nicknacks, plus various crates. Most ended up in the back bedroom.  I’ve SLOWLY been unpacking.  Perhaps I need to add unpack boxes onto my challenge.

The first box contained yearbooks. There must be another box because that cabinet was full before the shuffling began.  The second box contained photo albums.

My wedding album is what is missing here. Currently it is on the hearth.  The “leather” cover has gotten sticky over the years so I need to do something so it doesn’t tear up the finish on the table.

But back to the real challenge.  I hemmed 2 pair of pants!

That leaves the following:

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.
  • Narragansett Blues
  • Sister Swap # 3 – The binding is made just needs to be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Then & Now 6/7/2020
  • Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • Tablerunner – Finally figured out what I am going to use – 6/7/2020
  • The quilt with the striped backing needs a label and delivered
  • I’m behind on my Star Studded BOM. I have fabric for 11 or 12 large blocks and 23 6-inch blocks.
  • The log cabin quilt needs to be quilted bound and labeled.
  • The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top.
  • Although not quilting, there are 9 8 pair of pants which need to be shortened.
    • 2 pair hemmed 6/8/2020
  • Bonus #1 – Pillowcases:
    • the customer quilt 6/6/2020
    • Allietaire
    • Narragansett Blues
    • Log cabin quilt (2)
  • Bonus #2: Pillowcases for quilts already completed
    • Christmas Crazy 8s
    • On Ringo Lake
    • En Provence (2)
    • Carolina Chain
    • Good Fortune
  • Bonus #3: Quilt, bind, label and make pillowcase (2) for Frolic.

40 Day Challenge

I’d like to get back to blogging about my quilting. It seems that I generally just post to Facebook anymore.  In one of my Facebook groups someone asked “What are you working on?” For me this morphed into this 40 Day challenge. My goal is to get everything on this list done.

This first picture is a stack of quilts that need to be bound.

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.
  • Narragansett Blues
  • Sister Swap # 3 – The binding is made just needs to be attached and stitched down
  • Then & Now
  • Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • Tablerunner – Finally figured out what I am going to use

Believe it or not there’s more work in this pile than the binding pile.

The quilt with the striped backing needs a label and delivered

I’m behind on my Star Studded BOM. I have fabric for 11 or 12 large blocks and 23 6-inch blocks.

The log cabin quilt needs to be quilted bound and labeled.

The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top.

Although not quilting, there are 9 pair of pants which need to be shortened. This is driving the 40 days.

Bonus #1: Pillowcases for the customer quilt, Allietaire, Narragansett Blues, and the log cabin quilt (2)

Bonus #2: Pillowcases for quilts already completed – Christmas Crazy 8s, On Ringo Lake, En Provence (2), Carolina Chain, Good Fortune

Bonus #3: Quilt, bind, label and make pillowcase (2) for Frolic.

It should be an interesting 40 -45 days.
