Stash Report

Nothing in, nothing countable used.

Last week I pulled all the fabric for the November stars, but I’ll count all of the fabric when the quilt top is finished — next August!  I’ve also resumed working on the Batik quilt, but again that fabric won’t get counted until I get the top finished – with luck on next week’s report. There are a couple of big purchases looming — the background for the graduation quilt and the backing for the batik quilt, but I’m not purchasing either until the batik top is done. At least that’s my story right now.

What’s On My Design Wall

More stars!

For those of you keeping count, my start date on the stars is September 1st.  That means as of last night I should have 57 stars completed at one Star-A-Day.  As you can see, there are a few extra up on the wall.  The extra stars are because 1 – I prepped a month’s worth of stars in advance and 2 – there was a lot of sitting and waiting going on last week.  One more star (and I just need 3 background pieces attached) and I’ll have all of October’s stars done.

There are a few more rings stitched on the binding, but I’m not sure how many. Maybe later today I’ll have some time to figure that out.

Stash Report

It’s been a long week. Extra stars were made. Binding was stitched down on a couple of rings of the DWR. The boxes of magazines were removed from my house (I still have the batting scraps and fabric “confetti”). But there is no change in my stash report.

craigslist

Last week this was the pile of “scraps” and quilting magazines I needed to go through. I’m happy to report as of last night I completed both tasks.

magazines

These are the magazines I’m not keeping, passing them along to my sister to go through. Yes, there are more in the boxes now than when I started. The last thing I did was go through mine, including those that hadn’t made onto the shelf since there wasn’t any room.

I now have space.

As for the “scraps”, after it was all said and done I ended up with a bin full of usable scraps and about 1/2 a popcorn tin of crumbs (the tin was 1/2 full to begin with). Although I do wonder why I collect crumbs. In the end I usually give them away.

SCRAPS

In addition to the scraps, there was a bunch of Christmas fabric with fusible. There’s probably enough to decorate 2 or 3 sweatshirts.

As far as yardage goes…I weighed the scraps — 7.8 pounds.  Doesn’t that work out to about 31 yards at 4 pounds a yard? I’m going to add it to the recycled column of my spreadsheet. It will still get counted in my total, but not as purchased yardage.

I really need to finish something. I’m going backwards….

Ooh — I just realized I haven’t counted (or sorted through) the milk crate of scraps I bought at the estate sale a few weeks ago.  Maybe next week.

I haven’t reported the last few weeks as there’s been nothing to count in or out.  I’ve been keeping up with my Star-A-Day project, but that fabric won’t be counted until the top is finished. I did finish a project last week – I made a lining for a crocheted purse.

Thursday I found out that one of the LQS is going out of business. My husband encouraged me to go. So Saturday, armed with my budget and the list of fabric that I need to finish some of my numerous UFOs, off I went. Pictured above is what I came home with.

The turquoise is for the new Bonnie Hunter Mystery — if I decide to do it.  I wasn’t able to find a yellow I really liked. My sister and I will ultimately split this piece.  The paisley on the right I bought with the the idea of using it as the border for the Alphabet BOM. I’m considering a pieced sashing between the blocks and the brown and light blue is what I purchased for that. Given I still need to make 7 more blocks and haven’t settled on a layout, who knows if this is really what it will be used for.  My sister gets a piece of the light blue as well.  In exchange, I’ll get some of the black prints she bought.

It’s a good thing I haven’t been to the thrift shops lately, although I did pick up “scraps” off of the Free Stuff in Craigslist. I’m still wading through them or I would have included them in this report.

Stash Report

Although I was in multiple quilt shops this past week, I only came home with a single spool of thread and multiple patterns.  I even managed to pass up the fabric at a moving sale of a local fabric and quilt designer! The only used fabric is the binding for the DWR.

Stash Report

Given that I didn’t get my sewing machine out until late Thursday evening, it should come as no surprise that there is no fabric used.  Well, I did – the fabric necessary to make the “T” block, but since I’m waiting to count it at the end and the binding to Abbey Memories was counted last week, this week’s out count is 0.  But then again, I didn’t add any new fabric.

Stash Report

Last week was productive. Didn’t get everything done by Friday morning as I hoped, but got enough done that I was able to get everything done at the retreat that I wanted to.

So, here are the numbers:

Stash Report

Sydney came over and started a new quilt.  We got half the fabric cut for her new quilt – 160 2-1/2″ x 8 1/2″ strips.  While I had the pink fabric out I cut a few 2″ strips to potentially use in a quilt I’m considering making my niece for graduation.  I haven’t committed to the pattern, so those strips will go in to the 2″ strip box and are not counted, nor is the quilt considered started.

On the other hand, I’ve cut 10 of the 17 FQs I purchased back in March for a quilt for my college roommate.  At this point I’d like to give a shout out to Bonnie Hunter’s Scrap User System. It took me less time to cut half the fabric for Sydney’s quilt than it has my quilt and I got more of her fabric cut. Anyway, my FQs won’t get counted until I get the quilt top put together. With luck perhaps next week.

I am however counting the fabric I made for the bias binding for the Eeyore quilt. Yes, Eeyore is quilted and just needs to be bound and washed.

So, here are the latest numbers:

Fabric Added to Date: 146.734 yards

There wasn’t much happening at the sewing machine — other than sewing those two blocks wrong.  Normally I count my fabric used when I complete a top, but since the two blocks are going into the orphan block box and everything in there is already counted when I finished the original project, I’m going to count the two blocks as out.  Nothing came in.
