Modern Building Block # 1 – Test Quilt

I opted to add a border to the block simply to give ma an edge to quilt. The border brings this to 48″ square.  I was able to use the piece of fabric I had left from the backing of the Magnolia quilt, so that length is out of my stash. I think I still have 3 or 4 yards more.

For the backing, I’m using the back that I took off the center of my sister’s quilt when I decided to long arm it.

I found on small hole in it, but after patching it and putting in on the long arm, the quilt side edge of the hole falls just outside the border. Yea!

Unfortunately, I did not see this hole in the top fabric until after I quilted the section.  I will have to figure out how to fix it.

It’s small wonder — this is reclaimed fabric from the wall at Northwest Fabrics and Crafts when they closed in the early 1990’s. The rest of the fabric is going in the dog bed bag.
