Sewing Machine Needles

needles

Earlier this week I was looking for yellow lead for my marking pencil – I found black, white & pink lead and kept finding packages of machine needles.  I sorted them universal needles to the left, specialty needles to the right.  The blue box has needles in it as well.  I think I’m set for needles for a while.

Oh – the yellow lead? Never found it. I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t dig deep enough or if I simply don’t have any. I did find some yellow chalk marker which worked for my project.

What’s On My Design Wall

COS_DW0106

There’s no piecing on my design wall – I’ve spent the last few days migrating the blog (welcome to the new site – I’d love to have you follow me here) and quilting Deadline Project IV.  This is the only view I can show for a few months.

Now off to bind, label and wash the quilt to so I can cross this UFO off the list!

See what others are working on by hoping over to Patchwork Times.

Stash Report

Welcome to my new home — Pamela.AvaraArts.com. I’m still tweaking things, but hopefully I’ll get everything the way I want it and then can focus on what I love to do — quilting.

Last week was a very good week as far as the stash goes.  I bought a yard of fabric to use for binding the quilt I’m currently quilting (Deadline IV) but then removed a tad over 8 1/2 yards from the stash.  Pillowcases, backing & binding for the Frog Quilt, took a recycled shirt out of the stash when I realized it was a poly/cotton blend, the backing for Deadline IV and I cut a few more pieces for Syd’s latest quilt.  — She called Friday and said she only had 95 blocks and there were supposed to be 105.

Had I stayed home instead of running around doing errands Friday night and setting up the new blog location, I might just have finished the quilting on the current quilt.

Here’s the report:

Fabric added this year: 1 yards
Fabric used this year: 8.539 yards
Net used: 7.539

The Last Finish for the Year

frogDone3

The Frog Quilt is DONE!

I started it 1/11/12 and finished it 12/31/13. The hold up?  Deciding on the face. The eyes had been decided on for months. (I have a picture from March 2013 with paper eyes pinned in place and who knows how much earlier I had the eyes in place).

Finally, I decided done was better than perfect and who  knows – Frog may no longer need a quilt now that his owner is two years older.

All the fabric came from stash – with the exception of the peppermint fabric.  It was purchased specifically for this quilt, picked out by my nephew.  The back is a bit wild. I reached into my Novelty box and grabbed the first piece big enough.

The quilt measures 19 1/2″ x 23 1/2″. I used Hobbs Unbleached 80/20 for the batting and quilted it in a soft yellow thread.

Now, to get it delivered….

2013 Final Countdown – Task Three

Task three of the Final Countdown has been announced.

Make a list of 12 projects.

Well, I’ve been compiling lists and tossing them out only to recompile them again. Some have actually made it onto paper.  But this is the first one I’ve published. Since I want to do another UFO push like I did back in 2011 I have have two lists.

Tops to Complete

  1. Christmas BOM
  2. Hancock Stars BOM
  3. Green & Cream Swap
  4. Compass Lone Star
  5. Candy Sunflower Seeds
  6. Orca Bay
  7. Eeyore
  8. ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
  9. Scrappy Trips
  10. Sew Scrappy
  11. String HST Wall Hanging
  12. Brick & Stepping Stones

Tops to Quilt

  1. Diamond Links
  2. Deadline Project IV
  3. Thangles BOM
  4. DWR
  5. QIAD Christmas Row Swap
  6. Tetris
  7. Deadline Project II
  8. Deadline Project III
  9. Hancock Stars BOM
  10. Green & Cream Swap
  11. Compass Lone Star
  12. Eeyore

The only order either of these list are is by date I started the quilt or when I finished the top.  Trust me when I say they won’t be finished in this order.  In fact the first up on my list beginning tomorrow is Deadline Project IV.

Frog Quilt is in the dryer (completing Task One and giving me another 2013 finish – photos to come); my sewing area has been cleaned up and now I have a plan for 2014. Thanks Shelly for doing the Final Count Down Challenge.

2013 Final Countdown – Task Two

Today’s task of the Final Countdown is:

Organize something.

My translation of this task was to clean up the sewing room.  I commented on the post thinking my sewing room was in decent shape and then took some before pictures.  Oh, my! It was worse than I thought. So I took another set of pictures that didn’t quite show how bad the room was.

Of course now that I look at these, the really bad part (the floor on the other side of the ironing board) isn’t shown – just as well.

sewingroom after -2

Anyway, the room is in better shape now. The large crate has been taken out to the garage, the cut off batting from the last couple of quilts has been tucked away into the batting crate and the stacks of fabrics have been put away.

I’m calling this one Done.  Now back to the Frog quilt.  I need to make a label, hanging sleeve and attach the binding.

What’s On My Design Wall

Today I have the Frog quilt laying on the cutting table, waiting for the binding. This little quilt — it measures roughly 20″ x 24″ has taken me nearly 2 years to get this far.  The hold up was the face.

Between really needing to get it done and a prod from the Final Countdown Challenge I think I might just get it finished today.  The magical stash provided the backing and a binding – although now that I think about it the binding and backing are going to clash horribly.  Well, it’s a quilt for a Build-A-Bear Frog, so I don’t think Frog will mind.

See what others are working on this last week of the year over at Patchwork Times.

Syd just came in and asked me why I changed the green out for orange. Boy is she going to be surprised when she realizes this second set is hers.
