Fabric Bingo

Friday night my quilt guild got together on Zoom to play Fabric Bingo.  We each made at least one Bingo card.  The colors were the letters — Red – Green – Pink/Purple – Yellow/Orange – Blue.  The colors could go in any order except the Pink/Purple had to go in the middle since the Black square was the “free”.

The numbers were the categories — batiks, dots, florals, geometrics, hearts, leaf prints, metallic, holiday, novelty, paisley, plaid, solids or tone on tones, stars, stripes, and 1930’s prints.

The call might be “Green Novelty” and I’d place my marker on the lemonade stand on the left block.  The way we played, fabrics could fall into multiple categories.  For instance the 2nd green square from the top of the second block could be Green Leaf, Green Floral, or Green Metallic  (there is a silver outline around the flowers).

The first two or three games we played straight lines and I won the first game — a $10 gift certificate to a LQS.  Then we played ‘corners’ and finally blackout.

There is talk of playing monthly, so I’ll need to make a couple more cards, this time digging into the stash instead of relying on my precut 2 1/2″ squares and strips.  Just today I found ‘Blue Hearts’ when I started digging out fabric for the guild BOM.  I need to pull out some 30’s fabric and locate some more paisleys.

At some point, we’ll gather all of the “cards” and put them together for a charity quilt.

The Late Edition of Finished (or Not) Friday

This is the Late Edition of Finished or Not Friday.  My plan was to finish the wedding top for today’s post, even if it meant posting at midnight. Had I not discovered the circled mistakes, I would have powered through.  The larger circle is after I ‘fixed’ it. I spotted the turned block in the smaller circle when I was double-checking to see if anything else was wrong.  Needless to say, I decided to call it quits for tonight.

I’m linking up with Alycia Quilts for Finished (or Not) Friday.

Bingo Blocks

Friday night my guild is playing Fabric Bingo, so I needed to make a couple of Bingo blocks.  I started this project when the instructions first came out, but didn’t get very far. It’s a good thing I didn’t make the blocks then because I needed t re-read the instructions. Hopefully I’ll have good cards.

If I don’t get in gear, I’m not going to have the wedding quilt top finished by/on Friday.  Show-Me-Quilting is having a virtual Skinny Bolt Sale at 7 PM Thursday night so that might be distracting for a while.  But if it’s done by 11:59 PM that counts, right?

  • 350 Challenge = 60 for the year 4 for February
  • Easy Breezy = 103

A New Door Wreath

It’s February, so time for a new door wreath.  This has been hanging in my sewing room for a few weeks.

Two thirds of the seafoam HST are made and trimmed.  I’ll knock the rest out after work and start assembling the broken dish units.  I really would like to have the top done by the time my backing fabric arrives.

I bought a Big Dream Dahlia and a Big Dream Dance panel in the Hummingbird color way to see if they would work color wise with the wedding quilt .  The answer is a resounding Yes.  I’ve ordered another 8 of the Big Dream Dance panels and will make a big 9-patch to use for the backing.  I expect the panels to arrive on Friday, but it will be at least a week before I start to quilt this quilt, as I’ll do the practice quilt first — just as soon as I figure out how I’m going to quilt it.

  • 350 Challenge = 57
  • Easy Breezy = 102

Design Wall Monday – 2/1/21

It’s Monday and the 1st of the month, so there’s lots to link up.

If you’ve been following my posts in January, you may be thinking to yourself “Haven’t I seen this before?”.  But I promise, this is a new picture for Design Wall Monday.

I spent the weekend working on my Guild’s website and only got in a bit of quilting.  This is all of the pieces for the rest of the wedding quilt.  The lavender broken dishes are made, and have the seafoam HST ready to stitch.

Ideally, yesterday’s post should have been my accomplishment post to One Monthly Goal over at Elm Street Quilts. I really had hoped I’d have this top finished. It’s still in many pieces. But this is where I am now:

The pieces above

Half the quilt from earlier in the month.

And 1/4 of the top from early last week.  Perhaps by this Friday.

So, what is my One Monthly Goal for February?  I could say finish the wedding top, since I’m confident it will get finished, but instead I’m going with Quilt the Red, White & Blue Wonky Dishes.

I want to work out my quilting ideas on this quilt before I quilt the wedding quilt.

Which brings me to my 2021 Personal Quilting Challenge #1. These are my objectives which I hope to have done by February 23rd.

Fortunately I have another 23 days. I best get a move on it.

This brings me to the 350 Blocks report over at Prairie Moon Quilts.

  • 350 Challenge = 56
  • Easy Breezy = 101

I think that’s everything.  Let’s see what February has to offer.

Good Fortune Has It’s Portrait Taken

Some how I missed getting a ‘formal portrait’ of my Good Fortune quilt.  Until today, the picture above was the one I used on my “Finishes” page.

But today, was it’s day. A friend is coming over to get a picture of a quilt she’s recently made, so I pulled out my PVC pipe quilt stand and new lights.  Since I have them out I used this opportunity to get a full picture of the quilt.

Good Fortune was the Quiltville Mystery which started Thanksgiving weekend 2018. I finished my top, adding extra blocks and tweaking the borders in September 2019.  I got it quilted that November prior to the start of the next mystery.  The patter is available in the Quiltville Store HERE.

It is quilted edge to edge with ‘Espalier’. I Glide thread, probably Amethyst. My quilt measures approximate 68″ x 84″.  There is a pillowcase to go with the quilt.

Finished (or Not) Friday – 1/29/21

Here is it another Finish (or Not) Friday and I’m still showing HST for the wedding quilt.  These are the last of the lavender ones. This evening I’ll see about getting them assembled into broken dish units and starting the seafoam ones.

This is the section I finished earlier this week. With any luck, I’ll have the top finished by next Friday!

Another Section is Complete

The 3rd section of the quilt is sewn together. And from the scraps I make another Easy Breezy block.  It was tempting to work on the MQA BOM as the last 2 blocks were released, but I remembered my One Monthly Goal and the only way I’m going to finish the rest of the top this month is if I don’t get distracted.  There will be plenty of time to accomplish my challenges from my personal challenge.

Wednesday’s Musings

Last night I nearly finished cutting the last of the lavendar HST for the wedding quilt.

More was not accomplished because it was Guild night. We met via Zoom. Alex Anderson was our featured speakers. She spoke of her quilting journey. I also heard we were expecting snow overnight and decided that if I was going to get socked in, I needed a bit more in the way of groceries.  This is all the snow we received and tomorrow the temperature is expected to get to 42 and Friday 50. Had I realized that, I’m not sure I would have gone to the store.

Finally, this is Sherbert in her new bed.  A friend bought this for her pet, but it was too small.  I’ve had it sitting out for nearly a week, but last night was the first time I saw any of the cats using it.  I think it fits her perfectly.

Moda U is Finished!

Moda U is now complete!  This quilt was a Block of the Month in 2007-2008.  I finished the top timely, but it waited to be quilted.  The quilting took place in  September and October of 2020. It got pulled off the machine at least once to quilt something else and once to turn it to do the borders.

The thread is Antique Gold.  Most of the quilting was done using the computer on my Innova, setting it up one block at a time.

The quilt measures 61-1/2″ by 81-1/2″ after washing.

This quilt is one of the tasks on my Personal Challenge # 1.
