This past week there hasn’t been much time at the sewing machine.  First there was 4 days on the road and then when I got back I wasn’t able to sit at the sewing machine for any length of time, as I twisted my ankle and knee when I went bowling.   Needless to say, I did not haul my sewing machine to the 2nd Friday sew-in and took my red work.  By the end of the  night I had finished the first piece except for the two snowflakes on the right side of the piece.  Then I pulled out the holly leaf piece.  I’ve worked on it on and off all weekend and I am half way finished with it. At this rate I might have a quilt top in a year or so.

When I did sit a the machine I worked on sewing the Ocean Wave blocks into rows.  There a row missing from the wall — it’s on my sewing table.  I have a few half blocks to make and attach, then I can sew the rows together.   — that star hanging out there was from a couple of weeks ago.  It’s still waiting on the Bells block for the UFO challenge.

This box contains the Part 4 of Orca Bay.  I’ve been working on them as leader enders for the past few weeks and finished up the last of them Saturday.  Now I’m sewing pinwheels together for the Ocean Wave border as leader/enders.  I’m going to need a new L/E project before too long.

Four days on the road didn’t leave much time for machine piecing.  But I did start to piece the current section of Ocean Waves together and in doing so, I finished Step 4 of Ocra Bay.  That means I get to count those 700 HSTs this week. There was also a Dutch Nine Patch Block for a hug quilt.

With events every night after a day of meetings, there wasn’t much time to stitch.  But I did get this done over the past couple of days.

This month I need to make a Ohio Star — that was done last week.  I also need to make this bell block.  The fabric is and ready for me to work on the block when I get that far.  It might be the end of the month before it happens.

There are two Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler blocks to do as well.  I have the patterns for Mrs. Cleveland’s Choice – B8 and Providence – M6 ready from several months ago, so maybe they will be the blocks I do this month.

This is what my design wall looked like when I left for the airport Sunday afternoon. I’m on a work trip.  This is the first time in 4 years I’ve seen my co-workers.

So, what’s on the wall?  Top left are the Just Takes 2 blocks.  The 9″ blocks are from February 15th. I’ll take them down after I finish the last block from that group.  The feathered star, flying geese and square in a square are the March 1st blocks.  I finished that feathered star Saturday night.

On the right is the last section of the Ocean Wave quilt. I need to make a few more half blocks and then sew the section together.  My goal is to get this top completed by the end of the month.  I think I have 16 more pinwheels to piece for the border.  I’ll do those as leaders/enders while I work on this section.

In the meantime, I’ve sewn wings on the HST for Orca Bay.  I think I have 30 more wings to sew, then I’ll have to figure out where I am on the quilt.

Finally, there that poor frog which still need front legs and a real face instead of paper eyes.

On the flight out, I worked on the applique on Turkey Tracks — Just three more leaves.  Coming home, I’ll work on the redwork.

2 Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler blocks, March 1st JS2 blocks and one Christmas BOM block added up to nearly 3/4 of a yard  I don’t see much fabric being used this coming week as I’ll be working on my redwork snowmen and the applique on the JT2 block from February 15th.

Whew!  I think I can confidently say I won’t be making a quilt full of feathered stars.  This single block seemed to take forever.  I can’t say that it’s the only thing I pieced last night and today because I’m down to less than 40 HST which need wings for Orca Bay.  I might try to make a 40″ feathered star for a baby quilt or the center of a quilt — this one measures 15″ finished.

Since I’ve already gotten a head of myself, I thought I’d put JT2 block # 21 together.  No, I will not be doing the feathered star tonight.

Apparently I didn’t listen when I told myself I couldn’t work on this month’s UFO Challenge or the Just Takes 2 blocks before I finished up the purse and frog quilt.

The top block is the ‘Red and Gold” Ohio Star from the Christmas BOM.  I still have the Bells to appliqué to finish this month’s challenge.

The strings of flying geese are blocks # 20 and 22 of the Just Takes 2 quilt.  Here not only did I work on the new blocks I worked on them out of order.  I still have 3 more leaves to applique from the February 15th block set and now I’ve jumped ahead to the March 1st block set and skipped the Feathered STAR and Square in a Square block.  It was a case of wanting some mindless piecing and instant gratification. Sshh, don’t tell, but I didn’t paper piece my geese. I used the Quilt in a Day flying geese ruler.

Well, perhaps tomorrow I’ll fall back into line.

February’s official UFO challenge was to complete the Visions of Sugarplums and Hole in the Barn Door from my Christmas BOM quilt which has been languishing since 2003.  I finished up Sugarplums Monday.

Unofficially, I’ve also decided to quilt at least one ring on my Double Wedding Ring and two blocks from Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler.  After last month’s tremendous progress on the DWR, I just eked out this month’s quilting.

I did however finish the SBS blocks at the last minute.

So, what’s up for next month?  Judy has picked Block #8 as the challenge for March.  For me that is Bells & Red and Gold Ohio Star.  Plus two more SBS blocks, at least one ring on the DWR (I really would like to get 5 done, but that’s probably pushing it).

Also up on the agenda for March  finishing the Bellenca Bag, the frog quilt, the 4th section of Ocean Waves and staying caught up on the Just Takes Two blocks.  Good thing my challenge is only the Christmas BOM blocks.  I don’t know if I’ll get all of this done.  But I’m going to give it a shot.
