As near as I can tell, everything is still looking good. A couple of my original black-eyed peas finally came up and this morning there was a new sprout from last week’s planting. Since these pics were taken (about 8 AM this morning) another pea has sprouted. It’s hard to believe it’s only been 3 weeks since I planted.
No, it’s not a quilt, but it is fabric that I bought last week.
My husband stopped at a garage sale on his way home from the dentist a couple of weeks ago. He bought two swivel bar stools which needed a bit of TLC. (I forgot to take a picture until we started working on them.) This is one was the ‘good’ one.
With a little bit of elbow grease and $6 of vinyl we now have two good-looking bar stools. Now to figure out where to put them. He’s decided not to use them where he original intended.
Just a few more seams left on Eye Fooler. I’ve got to stay home and stop running around. It interferes with my quilting.

Apparently I can’t garden and quilt at the same time. I STILL don’t have the graduation quilt done, so last week I pinned Orca Bay to the zippers, but then couldn’t get away from work for my long-arm date. So, I have a marathon date with the long arm this week to quilt both quilts.

The only reason we went into Jo-Ann’s today was to buy some fabric to cover a couple of bar stools. But, since we were standing in line anyway… and the fabric was 40% off….
I plan to make three different Disappearing Nine-Patch quilts. The orange is part of the fabric I bought for the backing of Orca Bay, so it’s already been counted. It goes into the quilt for my youngest nephew. The green — it’s a sagey/olive goes to the next youngest nephew and the red goes to the oldest nephew. The rest of the fabrics will come from my recycled shirts. I figure if I have them out might as well cut for all three.
Oh, and yes, we did find what we needed for the bar stools. I’ll do before and after photos when I get that far.
These pictures were taken yesterday, but I didn’t have a chance to post them.
It still doesn’t look like much, but I noticed this morning that some of the lettuce has 3 leaves on it now. The spinach is also looking less like the carrots as well.
The beefsteak tomato is getting a bit heavy, so I can see why the case will be necessary.
The Cherry tomato is still there — although I’ve got to research spots/discoloration on the leaves.
The Cherokee is coming along as well.
Next up are the cucumbers. This morning I can see the start of new leaves in the center of the center plant .
Still no blackeyed peas, but I’ve got 3 good beans — actually there were 6, 2 beans planted in each spot and I removed the smaller of the 2. Then I planted more blackeyed peas in the back half of the container.

5 of the 6 plants have come up – but I think I’m going to have to take at least 2 out of the container.

Yes, the numbers are up again and I’m still not counting anything out. But next week I’ll be able to count all of the fabric for the graduation quilt, including the backing (and binding?) as I’m quilting it on Thursday afternoon. Nothing like a date with the long arm to finish up a quilt. The following week I’ll use a good bit of the orange fabric I purchase last week as the backing of Orca Bay as I have another date with the longarm.

I stopped by the quilt shop to pick up some “in your face orange” and black bobbins for the two quilts I’m quilting this month and they had a basket of pins by the cash register. This one spoke to me.
I hoped to have a picture of the finished graduation quilt top for today’ post, but I went backing shopping and came home with BRIGHT ORANGE fabric which will not go on the graduation quilt. It’s getting a dusty black. So, between now and next Thursday, I need to finish the top, pin it and the backing to the zippers, figure out how I’m going to quilt it and decide on a thread color.
Orca Bay is not quilted either. But I know what thread color I’m going to use (purple on the top, orange on the bottom) and have the backing fabric. I just need to decide how I’m going to quilt it, make the backing, and pin it to the zippers by the Wednesday after I quilt the graduation quilt.
The third thing I wanted to do in April was make 30 stars for my Star-A-Day quilt. That didn’t happen either. In fact, no stars were made in April.
What did I accomplish? 35 blocks towards the graduation quilt; 2 blocks toward my postage stamp quilt; cut 1-1/2″ charms for the PSQ swap; planted a container vegetable garden (cucumbers & spinach or carrots popped through the dirt today to go with the lettuce from earlier in the week); cleared out a bit of “junk” via Craigslist and Ebay (who knew the price of a vintage ashtray would be more than a few bucks?) ; and worked part of 3 weekends.
So, what’s up for May?
In between all of this, I’m attending my niece senior presentation, working one weekend, going to her graduation, babysitting my garden and of course continuing to work full time (I’m taking 2 afternoons off to rent time on the longarm). I probably need to fit in laundry and cooking as well.

No, this is not the backing for the graduation quilt – it’s the backing for Orca Bay. My friend wanted orange. I think this counts. I’ll also use it as the binding. By using this on Orca Bay, I can then use the black which I didn’t use on the Auction Quilt and was going to use on Orca Bay as the backing for the graduation quilt.
Of course if I don’t get it in gear I won’t need the backing. Ten more full blocks and 32 half blocks plus a border to go.
