What’s On My Design Wall

A week’s vacation where we stayed at home and I managed to get 10 very large 9-patches made, but not pressed.  That’s all on the quilting front. I didn’t even get any squares for the quilt back cut. Needless to say, I didn’t bother with a stash report yesterday — nothing in nothing out.

So what did I get done?  The house is clean. The laundry is nearly caught up. I fed a crew of 10 Saturday before last and 11 this past Saturday and ALL of the brush is hauled off!

My husband has spent the last two summers working on the back yard, reclaiming it from the jungle it had become.  This summer alone we hauled off 7 loads – a F250 with a 5′ x 8′ flatbed trailer – of brush.  Now we get to work on rebuilding it.  Primarily seeding it so it is easier to care for. You should be able to click on the picture below to see the yard before and after.

I hope this week to get back to the sewing machine.  I have a quilt to finish, backings to make and quilts to quilt!

Stash Report

It’s been a long week with no sewing. I may have gotten one shirt cut for the quilt backs I’m working on, but I’m not sure. On the other hand the house is clean (my office/studio excluded), 4 very large piles of brush were hauled off yesterday and I managed to get everyone fed who came to help.

As for that sheet that I was eyeing last week…I completely forgot to go get it on Monday when it was on sale. Although the non-sale price was good for the amount of fabric I could harvest with little work, it didn’t really go with any of my quilt tops ready for a backing — or it wasn’t big enough.

Simple report this week,  nothing in, nothing out.

Stash Report

I have a quilt top so I have yardage to report as used! I’ll save the quilt top for tomorrow’s Design Wall post, but I’ll show the backing I’m now working on.

Yes, more shirt fabric. I’m cutting 9″ squares to piece into backings for the 3 DP9 quilts and need 320 of them! I can sometimes get 2 squares from a long sleeve depending on how big the shirt was. This is a stack of 21 squares. At this point there’s not much left in the shirts, but I’m not quite ready to cut them into strips. While I’m cutting these squares, I am cutting more tumblers.

I briefly thought about buying this sheet set at Savers, but since I wasn’t sure I had a quilt top it would work wiith as a backing and linens are 40% off on Monday…

100tumblers

Another week where nothing has changed on the stash report — but I’m OK with that as I have half of the Red Disappearing 9-Patch quilt top sewn together. No or little ran is forcasted for this coming week so I expect daylight hours after work will be spent chipping the brush as the carburetor was replaced yesterday. But even if I only spend 15 minutes each day, I should be able to finish it — and stitching pairs of tumblers from what I have cut out.

Stash Report

The only change to my stash report from last week is that I didn’t work on the stars.

No change on the fabric front.  I did a bit of hand stitching — have a new star to show for it — and briefly sat in front of the sewing machine to work on the 2nd DP9.

Maybe it’s because I had two big finishes in May followed by a 3 day retreat. Or the work that we’ve been doing in the yard. But for whatever reason, I’ve not been sitting at the sewing machine.

My actual design wall has not changed in 3 weeks — unless you count 3 blocks falling off the wall (one more than last week). But I did get one of my Star-A-Day stars stitched last week (it still needs pressing). This one is # 114.

Stash Report

Again, I’m not sure what I’ve been doing, but it hasn’t been quilting – unless you count finishing a new star for my Star-Every-Once-In-A-While quilt. Actually yesterday I went to the Inaugural Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival with my sister and last night I attended Jazz in the Woods with my husband.

The show had a great quilts, great special exhibits and great vendors. I started to say that I spent nothing — I didn’t come home with any fabrics — but I did spend more money that I intended to.

I love my Martelli Ergo Rotary Cutters — so much that when I eventually break them by dropping them one too many times or simply wear them out, I throw them in the bottom drawer to cannibalize them for parts.   I’ve managed to accumulate 4 of them and the last one I’ve been fighting to the point that I’ve been using my 2nd favorite cutter and put my 3rd favorite in the travel bag.

Well, one of the first stops we made was the Martelli booth.  They told me to bring them in and they’ll figure out what I’m doing wrong, fix them if possible or simply allow me to swap them out for half price.  My husband called me to see when I was coming home and I told him about the swap. Great guy that he is, he offered to get the cutters and bring them too me!  He found all of them.

We looked them all over. I had 3 different versions of cutters – the original which couldn’t be taken apart for cleaning, 2 of the next version and one of the latest models (all work the same, they simply tweaked the design a bit). The newest one it turns out I’ve been tightening the bolt too much, creating a groove in it causing it to seize up. They GAVE me a new bolt and now the cutter works just fine.

Of the other three, I traded in the one that couldn’t be cleaned and the one that I had broken off the hook where the spring attaches.  I left the show with 4 cutters – but gave one to my sister to try out. That still leaves me with one for home, one for my travel bag and a spare. The spare may get traded in some day as it’s not in the best condition, but will work in a pinch here at home.

Oh, but this was supposed to be a stash report before I got sidetracked. I won a couple of mini charm packs — that the only new fabric and as I implied in the beginning no countable fabric used.

Stash Report

This week I worked on Sew Scrappy and the red Disappearing 9-Patch, but I finished neither one of them. No time to go shopping as there was yard work (Ted cut, I hauled),

yardwork

a night out at Theater in the Park – we saw The Wiz,

thewizan unexpected evening go-live, covering for a co-worker, and of course recovering from last weekends retreat, the go-live and the yard work.

Stash Report

My stash report is late this week.  I got home about 4 PM from the retreat and I’m just now unpacking and taking stock. I was very good about not adding to my stash bringing  home only 3 1/3 yards of fabric — less than I used over the weekend!   A couple of FQs, yardage for a table runner, yardage for binding and Kansas Troubles scraps.
