Stash Report

A day off from work, a trip to a quilt shop on route to a mini-quilt retreat and no fabric came into the house – just this book, which my husband encouraged me to get.

I saw Get Your Stitch on Route 66 at Quilting Bits a Quilting Bits & Pieces a couple of months ago. When I came home and told my husband about it, he wanted to know why I didn’t buy it.

On the usage front, I finished up my Fairy Frost Sunset quilt top.

So, here are the numbers:

Fabric Added this Week: 0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 149.761 yards

Fabric Used this Week: 2.85 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 72.624 yards

Net Stash for 2010: 77.137 yards

Working on two new quilts, sample blocks and a backing kept me from back sliding further when the dragonfly fabric came in.

Fabric Added this Week: 4 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 149.761 yards

Fabric Used this Week: 4.801 yards

Fabric Used to Date: 69.774 yards

Oklahoma Backroads is now bound.  Unfortunately that 20″ of red fabric I used for the binding no where near offsets the fabric which was purchased this week — and I was also given some fabric which I haven’t counted yet.

I can’t even explain it all – except to say that when I’m traveling I never pass an open quilt shop and I found one with a pre-inventory sale going on.

Here are the numbers:

Fabric Added this Week: 9.5 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 145.761 yards

Fabric Used this Week: .555 yards

Fabric Used to Date: 64.973 yards

Net Stash for 2010: 80.788 yards

Clearly I’m going to have to get on the ball and get some backings pieced — or something to get my numbers down.

No fabric was used this week – I’m still quilting Oklahoma Backroads and the Double Wedding Ring.  I did however pop in the LQS and pick up these four fabrics.  I was planning only getting the top three,  but that stripe just screamed “binding”.

So, my numbers are up a bit this week.

Fabric Added this Week: 4 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 136.261 yards

Fabric Used this Week:  0 yards

Fabric Used to Date: 64.418 yards

Net Stash for 2010: 71.843 yards

It’s amazing how much the fabric usage will jump when you make a backing. Combine that with a bunch of the SBS blocks and a couple of swap blocks and the number is quite nice. Nothing fabric came in so that helps as well.

That’s Oklahoma Backroads on the sewing machine. I’m probably about 1/3 of the way through it. I finally decided how to quilt it — I just hope I get the effect I was going after. I really do need to learn to do free motion quilting.

To the numbers:

This week I may have made 5 blocks, but when 4 of them are only 6″ it just doesn’t use up fabric quickly.  I started a 5th 6″ block, but I’m still working on it.

If you’ve been following Bonnie Hunter’s blog you know that last week she was in Kansas City visiting area quilt guilds.   I met Bonnie in May when she was at the Kaw Valley Quilt Guild in Lawerence, Kansas, which is where I met also met Marci.  Marci invited me to visit the Nitetime Needlers Quilt Guild and last Thursday I did, where – yes – Bonnie  Hunter was the guest speaker.

So what does this have to do with a Stash Report?  At  the end of the meeting I won one of the door prizes! (Or maybe my husband did – he gave me his ticket at the break).  The items pictured above were in my bag.  That FQ is the only fabric I brought into the house this week.  But it’s a wash as I made the KVQG BOM last night.

Fabric Added this Week: .25 yards

When I picked these gloves up at the store, my husband assured me he knew where my gardening gloves were.  I guess I gave him a funny look because he made the connection.  These aren’t gardening gloves — they just look like gardening gloves.  I hope they become my machine quilting gloves.  The ones I bought which were designed specifically for machine quilting creep off my hands.

This was my sole quilting related purchase for the week. Although I quilted – baby 1000 Pyramids, DWR and Oklahoma Backroads (finished all of the blocks), the fabric has previously been counted. I did however send out a length of fabric to a friend looking for a sunflower print.

Stash Report

No new fabric was used this week. I worked a bit on Star Struck and I pulled out my 1000 Pyramids baby quilt and started quilting it. Since this quilt had previously been quilted before (bad tension), I can’t count the backing. I’m not even going to be able to count the binding as it was made at the same time I did the backing. But I WILL be able to cross off a UFO that’s been hanging around since April 2008. I just have to finish it. I’m not quite halfway through the quilting.

Oh wait. I did use the equivalent of 1 5/8″ of fabric from my 1 1/2″ strip bin to make a clothesline coaster, but hardly enough fabric to count.

Stash Report

It’s been a busy week, not that I could tell you what I’ve done all week. But it was very little quilting after about Monday or Tuesday. Early this week I finished cutting the gold accent pieces for Star Struck. Nothing inbound quilting related except for the quilting hoop and book. Oh, yes, I picked up the current issue of Country Woman last night at Jo-Ann’s. There is an article about Jennifer Chiaverini and I think a quilt pattern in it. We were in Jo-Ann’s to pick up a piece of upholstery fabric to cover the seat of a small loveseat. That’s what I’ll be doing today.

So here’s the tally:

Fabric Added this Week: 0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 132.011 yards

Fabric Used this Week: .7 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 56.606 yards

Net Stash for 2010: 75.405 yards
