Quilting and Stuff by Knitnoid

QA Wednesday

WooHoo!  All the goals were met this week.

  • Continue working on the DWR.  – Done – one more ring and I’ll have the first row quilted!
  • Make the this month’s KVQG block – Done!
  • Make at least one Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler block – 2 Blocks Done!
  • Make progress on Oklahoma Backroads.  – Done!

No pictures this week.  Can a goal be to NOT do something?  I had so much fun on my pink dragonfly yesterday that I started another one this time in orange.  I have half the wings outlined.  I want to take them, and the DWR to work on at the mini retreat next month.

This week’s goals:

  • Continue working on the DWR.
  • Make at least two SBS Blocks (I need to do 8 more this month).
  • Make two swap blocks.
  • Don’t work on the dragonflies.

Not much on the list, but I haven’t figured out which quilt I’ll work on next.  I probably should put something down to machine quilt, but I’m writing this before I go to bed and I can’t think.

QA Wednesday

Last week’s goals

  • Finish quilting and bind the 1000 Pyramids –  DONE
  • Every day quilt on my DWR. – 6 of the 7 days
  • Clean the sewing room.  – DONE

It’s a good thing I didn’t have much more planned.  I’ve been rather listless.  I think it’s the clean house and sewing room – I don’t want to mess anything up.  It has however afforded me plenty of time to work on the DWR.

I’ve got the DWR in a laundry basket and it sits beside my recliner with a basket of supplies on the table (I don’t pretend to be a decorator).  In the evenings I watch the summer dramas on either USA or TNT and quilt.  With the new hoop, my wrists aren’t giving me as much trouble as I was having on the floor frame.  I think it’s because I can change positions more easily.

So what’s up for this week?

  • Continue working on the DWR.  I need to complete a ring every two days if I’m to finish this quilt by November.
  • Make the this month’s KVQG block – the meeting is Monday!
  • Make at least one Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler block – 4 or 5 would be better.
  • Make progress on Oklahoma Backroads.  I have all the blocks sewn together in pairs

QA Wednesday

Last week’s goals:

#1 – move the Double Wedding Ring from the floor frame to the lap hoop. I don’t know if this will require re-basting or not. I guess I won’t know until I try. – DONE, didn’t rebaste.
#2 – work on Star Struck – Ignored
#3 – since the rest of the house is clean, I now need to work on my sewing room – not much – did get the floor frame taken down.

The DWR didn’t get pulled out of the frame until Monday, which did allow me to take down the floor frame.  Already the sewing room feels bigger.    Part of the delay was I wanted to practice with the new quilt hoop.  I wasn’t able to find my whitework  hand quilting project (it’s here somewhere), so I pulled out my baby 1000 Pyramids.   I quickly realized that was not a good hand quilting project, so I began to quilting to my sewing machine.  I’m just about finished.

So what’s on my list to do this week?

  • Finish quilting and bind the 1000 Pyramids —  I’m going to bind it in the scrappy green binding pictured
  • Every day quilt on my DWR.
  • Clean the sewing room.  I just offered to host my quilting buddies for a sew-in  this month, so this has to get done.

August Quilting Goals

This month I hope to spend more time in my sewing room. I don’t have to work any weekends, so that will help tremendously. My Double Wedding Ring and my Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler quilts have not been touched for months, so I really need to get back to these two quilts. Naturally there are other bits and pieces I’d like to accomplish as well.

  • Keep up with the SBS BOW and the monthly Offline Quilters’ challenges.  This month the goal is 5 blocks on row A.   Who knows what the BOW will bring.  The end result should be 10 more blocks toward the 140.
  • Three 12″ blocks – two are for a swap and one is the KVQG BOM.  I should get the BOM pattern sometime next week.
  • Quilt, Bind and Label the baby 1000 Pyramids – since I’m waiting for the baby to be born, the label might roll to September.
  • Resume quilting on the DWR.  I’ve taken the quilt from the floor frame and put it in the lap hoop.  Last night I worked on it for a while.  I’ll get back to you on how I like the hoop.
  • Finish piecing the Star Struck blocks.  This would be a good project for a sew-in with my quilting buddies.  We haven’t had one of those for a while.
  • Quilt my Texas Braid. Alright, I admit it.  This is my long shot.

Will I finish everything I’ve put out on my list?  Who knows.  Check back with me through the month to see.

July Recap

July apparently was the month to quilt and bind. Three quilts (approximately 40 x 40) quilted and bound. On the piecing front, some progress was made on Star Struck and I started the guild BOM. The month started with putting a new sink in the hall bath and finished with a clothesline coaster.

Since my calendar is not as crowded this month, I hope to spend more time in my sewing room.

QA Wednesday

From last week’s post:

So this week will be devoted to finding the guest room and if I’m lucky I’ll get to sneak a few minutes of sewing in.

The house is clean – if you don’t look in my sewing room – so now I can sew. Three of the girls arrived last night and then they went to a movie. I took a nap, but did get about 15-20 minutes of piecing done on Star Struck. With 8 more seams, I’ll have another 8 blue stars.

This afternoon I’m off work (and tomorrow too) — originally, I was going to pick up the 4th girl for our Justin Bieber concert party, but my wonderful husband took the three girls and drove up to get her. I think they’ve gone to the mall so I have time to QUILT — or maybe I’ll go take a nap. I’ve been told I get to stay up tonight with the girls after the concert.

So, what’s on the agenda for this week?

#1 – move the Double Wedding Ring from the floor frame to the lap hoop. I don’t know if this will require re-basting or not. I guess I won’t know until I try.
#2 – work on Star Struck
#3 – since the rest of the house is clean, I now need to work on my sewing room

QA Wednesday

We lost our internet connection last night, so I didn’t get to prepare today’s post. No chance during lunch either, as phone kept ringing.

Last week a couple of simple goals

  • Continue working on the sewing room. I think this project is going to last all month.
  • Find batting for the baby boy quilt. – the backing and binding are with the top.

I’m happy to report that not only did I find the batting for the baby boy quilt I finished it Friday night.

Working in the sewing room, not so much. So, it’s on my list again for this week. My husband is taking our niece and three of her friends to the Justin Bieber concert next week. Since none of them live in town, some of them are spending the night before the concert here and all of them are spending the night after the concert. So this week will be devoted to finding the guest room and if I’m lucky I’ll get to sneak a few minutes of sewing in.

Follow the links over on Bari’s page to see if anyone else has plans to get any sewing in this week.

Another Baby Quilt – Finished!

This is my Bright Tossed 9-Patch.   It was a UFO from 2008.  This quilt is “related” to at least 3 other quilts.  The bright fabric was also used in my “No Blue Geese in my Tropical Garden” and some were used in a pair of quilts I made for my niece’s twins.

The binding and blue squares where from another quilt — although at the moment I can’t remember now which one.

I love this backing. Isn’t it fun?

I started off the year needing to finish at least 3 baby quilts and I wanted to use one from my stash of baby quilt tops. This was the 3rd quilt, so I can cross that goal off my list.

QA Wednesday

There were only two things on my list last week.

I’d show a picture of the room as it is this week, but it’s hard to see the changes. You’ll just have to believe me when I’ve said I’ve made progress.  What can I say – I got distracted – but it was a good distraction.

I’ve finally finished the baby quilt!  A baby girl quilt has been on my list since at least May.  I promise I was cleaning my sewing room, when I got the urge to get this top quilted.  I think it might have been receiving an invitation to a baby shower where I need a “boy” quilt.  I couldn’t very well skip ahead to that quilt when this quilt is going to a baby who is now 2 1/2 months old.  It also helped that I was able to pull a piece of batting out of my batting box that was the correct size 🙂

Here’s a closeup of the quilting.  Nothing fancy – diagonal lines through the green, resulting in a X on the white squares and a curvy 1/4″-ish on the petals.  I used a light pink thread.

The backing is the pretty green floral I bought at the end of May on a shop hop. The binding and label is a pink Marble I had in my stash.

So what’s up for this coming week?

  • Continue working on the sewing room.  I think this project is going to last all month.
  • Find batting for the baby boy quilt. – the backing and binding are with the top.

Dancing Flowers is Complete!

Earlier this evening I finished stitching down the hanging sleeve on Dancing Flowers.   It’s even been washed and dried.  But I still haven’t gotten a good picture of the quilting or the right colors of the border and sashing.

The label is the same fabric that is in the border.    I love the Laurel Burch fabric I bought for the backing.  It hides my quilting — unless you are up close and in good light.

I’ll try tomorrow in the daylight — provided it’s not raining to get a better picture.
