Stash Report – Final for 2015

nutcracker

My sister gave me a 3 yard length of this Nutcracker fabric for Christmas, it is the last of the yardage to be added to my stash for the year.

scraps

Week before last, I was given a bag of scraps – some with batting still attached. I finally sorted the bag out and have a lovely pile of fabric.

The binding for the Black & Bright quilt, plus the pillowcases, is the last of the yardage that is used for the year.

Overall for the year I think I did very well.  I personally only bought 59.448 yards of fabric — the rest , another 172.017 yards was either given to me or I won it.  You truly will be amazed at how much fabric there can be in a bag of “scraps”.

Total fabric brought into the house this year: 231.465 yards

Total fabric used this year: 177.859 yards

Net fabric in my stash: 53.606 yards

How did you do with your stash this year? Do you anticipate a different outcome next year?  I know I do. I avoided the thrift shops this year, but I’ve been asked to make another quilt from recycled shirts, so will be bringing in more shirts after the first of the year – at 1-1/2 yards of fabric a shirt and at most only using 1/4 of a yard from each shirt, I expect to have plenty of fabric left over. I’m guessing nearly 60 yards.

Hop over to Patchwork Times to see how others did with their stashes.

Stash Report

Lot’s of fabric used last week. It happens when you make 10 pillowcases, bind a throw and quilt a 103″ square quilt! And in all of this,  I only brought home 1 yard of fabric to use as cuffs for pillowcases.

Stash Report

I ended up buying 2 half yard pieces of fabric this past week because I guessed at the color — it was on sale for $5 and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to get out since I was working Saturday.  The color was way off and I finished up around Noon. After a stop at the box store for thread, I grabbed scraps from the quilt and headed across town.

No peg board fabric – didn’t surprise me, the fabric is at least 3 and possibly 5 years old. No green – that fabric is at least as old if not older, but found one the same color, but it wasn’t right. Ended up with an red-orange that is perfect.

On the usage side of things, binding for 3 quilts – the Red Disappearing 9-Patch, the Hardware quilt and the Black & Pink 4-Patch Stacked Posies. I also pulled a backing from stash for the Black & Pink quilt.

So, here’s the yardage tally.

Fabric Added Since Last Report 1.0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 220.465 yards

Fabric Used Since Last Report: 4.727 yards

Stash Report

Try as I might, there has not been much quilting going on at my place. There simply has been errand or household chore which simply could not be put off any longer. That’s not to say NO quilting has taken place. 12 more lines of quilting on the Red Disappearing 9-Patch and it will be time to bind it.  All this is to say, no fabric has been used this past week and I had that backing + purchase on Wednesday.

So here are the numbers:

Fabric Added Since Last Report 12.875 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 219.465 yards

Fabric Used Since Last Report: 0 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 149.71 yards

INCREASE in Stash to Date:  69.755 yards

Stash Report

The LQS has an awesome sale going on. Even so I wasn’t going to buy anything any — but they have select wide backings on sale for $5.95. I needed one more backing for the Challenge Quilt II quilts. The plan was to create a pieced backing from shirtings. But for $12, I could save myself a lot of time — and I had access to the long arm Saturday.  So, I bought 2 yards of this fabric. The report will show 4-1/2 yards as I converted the measurement to 45″ equivalent.

The quilt still needs binding, but it’s quilted, excess batting/backing is trimmed, and the threads are trimmed.

This week I also got around to making the pillowcases for Nifty Thrifty and the Green Disappearing 9-Patch quilts — I opted to split the green “yardage”  – I think I had 15″, so these pillowcases have a narrower cuff than I normally use.

Stash Report

It’s been two weeks since my last stash report — not because I’m hiding “purchases” or have nothing to report as “used”, but rather due to lack of time for blogging. I’ve recently started doing some computer work for a LQS and it happened to correspond to a busy time at work. So any spare time goes to quilting instead of blogging.

So, in the last two weeks, I was given a 3 1/2 yard piece of fabric to use as part of the backing of a quilt, a 2 yard piece of fabric to use for the binding of the same quilt – with the stipulation I return what I didn’t need and finally I was give this really cool mini charm pack.

I think there are 85 solid color fabrics in this collection. I have no idea what I’m going to do with them — yet.

As for the fabric I used…I finished the Sew Scrappy Quilt top, made the backing, quilted it, got it bound and made a pillowcase. The extra fabric is set aside to be returned.

shophop

Friday was day 2 of my vacation. It was also the first day of the Great Plains Sew-down a mini shop hop. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on a shop hop as I’m not buying fabric unless I need it to finish something specific. But this one the grand prize is a Featherweight sewing machine and 3 of the 6 shops I had not been to before. To top it off my husband offered to drive.  Well who can turn that down?

The plan was 1 FQ per shop, picking up fabrics for Allietare, the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt starting after Thanksgiving. I may have bought a tiny bit more, but they are all for the mystery quilt. In addition to hitting the quilt shops, we stopped at several thrift shops where my husband found plenty of CDs to add to his collection. The good news was we stayed in our budget.

So, to make up for the fabric purchases, I worked on Sew Scrappy, hoping to complete the quilt top. But I hit a wall. I finished the first set of 10 alternate blocks, threw them up on the wall with the plan to start sewing the first section together, and realized I need to finish all the blocks so I can spread out the really light lights. It took the wind out of my sails. But I don’t think it’s as bad as I thought, so hopefully I’ll finish the top in the next day or two.

Here’s the report.

When you finish 3 quilts and 3 pillowcases, it makes an impact on your stash numbers — even if you did pass though a quilt shop and pick up a couple of fat quarters..

Stash Report

Last week I finished piecing the backing for the Red Disappearing 9-Patch. That’s all the fabric that I used. The Green Disappearing 9-Patch is quilted, so next week I should have binding and pillowcase fabric to report.

bobbins

Apparently it’s a good thing that I post about what I get done in my quilting, because I was convinced that the only thing I’ve been working on is the shirt backing and it’s still needs 4 more seams. But I made the Hardware top which I finished Monday night and I finished up 20 blocks to Sew Scrappy on Tuesday.

The big purchase this week was bobbins. I need the lavender and white ones for the quilts I’m quilting on the 26th and while I was at the store I picked up the bobbins the other quilt I’ll do on the long arm in November.
