I made my first quilted item as a visual aid for a math project in 7th grade. Over the next 25 years quilting was hit or miss, but quilting took over all the other crafts I've done in 2003.

Stash Report

This week I pieced and quilted a baby quilt to practise the quilting for Deadline III.  That’s 4 1/2 yards used. Yea!

Saturday my friends and I gathered together – the first time in several months all of us were in one place – to give T her finished birthday quilt. There are pictures, but I don’t have them. It was a big hit. We also had a little white elephant exchange and I brought home some quilty goodness.

Friday Night Quilting

Well, the little quilt is quilted. I should be able to replicate the quilting on the larger quilt without marking near as much. But first I  have to rip out the quilting I did last week on the large quilt.

But first, since I had “scheduled” tonight to work on my DWR when I got home I did a bit – including threading all my needles again.  Two full rings and the edge hearts left to go. If I would stop and just work on this I could get it done in no time.  But after 24 years and 4 months, what’s the hurry? Perhaps my NEW goal should be to finish it by the end of September – 25 years after I started it. — Remind me of that if I haven’t started the binding by August, will you?

Ready to Quilt

I’m not positive how much fabric I started with, but I used nearly all of it between the quilt top and backing, which I had to piece. The batting is pieced as well.  I found 3 pre-wound white bobbins in my bobbin box, so that’s what I’m going to use along with the light beige thread on the top.  Now to scheduled time on the long arm.

Quilt Idea

Did anyone see or do the calendar quilt challenge back in 2009?

Have you seen the knitted temperature scarfs?

I’m just now tripping over these two challenges and I’m wondering if there is some way to make them work in a single project. So far my musing has not come up with a quilt size that works for me. But as soon as I figure something out, I may have a new scrap project in the works.

February’s Quilting Goals

I’ve reviewed my Quilting Goals for the year and have picked several that I’m planning on working on this month.

Febgoals

 

  • Make “visible” progress on my Double Wedding Ring – I’m planning on attending Stitch & Chat on the 7th and will take the quilt to work on.
  • Finish Deadline  III – Quilting is this morning’s project
  • Make the “N” blocks for the Alphabet BOM.
  • Make progress on Eeyore – I’ll be happy to get the appliqué done ready to attach to the background after I made the “N” block, this is going to be this month’s focus.
  • Bonus – Finish Scrappy Trips. – I need to make the backing and buy batting.

I’ll post my progress through the month and at the end of the month we’ll see if I was able to accomplish my goals.

4 UFOs are crossed off the list, 1 quilt in progress moved up, progress on a UFO, kept up with the BOM and 2 new projects started and finished (log cabin & pillowcase).  Not bad for a month’s work.

A UFO Bites the Dust

The summer of 2012, Melissa at Happy Quilting, hosted a Tetris Quilt-a-Long. Not wanting to start a big project, I made a wall hanging.  Yesterday I finally got around to quilting it.

The top measures 12-1/4″ x 33-1/2″.  I used black thread and quilted in the ditch around each “piece” and the letters.  I used a black batting — I can’t remember now who made it, other than it is not Hobbs because I remember speaking to the sales guy at a quilt show to find out why it was discontinued.  I had purchased a whole slew of the craft size at Jo-Ann’s when they had it on clearance for next to nothing.

The binding is a stripe that I found in my stash.

What’s On My Design Wall

Saturday evening I finished the log cabin quilt, although I still need to wash it.  It is quilted it with concentric diamonds starting in the center.  This is the same way I plan to quilt Scrappy Trips. Controlling the quilt and treadling was interesting. But is was do-able. Of course this was a tiny quilt comparably speaking. I even applied the binding and stitched it down on the treadle.

As for whether or not this was a “new quilt” or a “UFO” I guess is doesn’t really matter since it is a FINISHED quilt.
