I made my first quilted item as a visual aid for a math project in 7th grade. Over the next 25 years quilting was hit or miss, but quilting took over all the other crafts I've done in 2003.

Quilting Accountability.

Last week the goals were:

  • Finish the Music Quilt – Done.
  • Keep up with the weekly Sylvia’sBridal Sampler Blocks – Done.
  • Spend 3 1/2 hours of quilting on the Double Wedding Ring – 30 minutes a day. I’ve done that. However, I haven’t gotten as much done as I’d like. I really want to finish a about 1 1/4 ring each week and my speed simply isn’t there yet.

For the next 7 days:

  • I will continue hand quilting the DWR 30 minutes a day – this is a long term project 🙂
  • Keep up with the Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler BOW – another long term project
  • Work on Carolina Christmas.  I want to finish Step 4 by the end of the month
  • Working on my scrap basket.  My goal is to have it empty by the July quilt guild meeting.  So I’m going to press for 15 minutes and then cut up the scraps Bonnie style.

Wasn’t this basket half empty back in July?

Squishies in the Mail

Shelly over at Prairie Moon Quilts hosted a 12-Days of Christmas Giveaway. I was one of the lucky winners on Day Six. Today the package arrived. It is a rustic charm pack and a pattern designed by Shelly.

Thanks, Shelly. I’m looking forward to making up the pattern and playing with my charm squares.

What’s On My Design Wall

Today, it’s really  what’s NOT on my design wall.  My wall is empty — I took down Ladder to the Stars because I needed the hangers to take a picture of “Music Lessons”  (alternatively know as Ted’s quilt;  Music Stars; and  the music quilt).  I finished it last night and took it out of the dryer a little while ago.

It even has a label.

There is a new tab for my 2010 finishes. I hope this is the first of many UFOs I finish this year.

Quiltathon Progress Report – Day 2

“Music Lessons” is done!!!! There’s even a label on the quilt. After I wash it in the morning, I’ll try to get a decent picture of the quilt. It will depend on the weather.

Even though I planned to quilt Monday since I am off from work, I think I’ll take it easy.

Quiltathon Progress Report

Yesterday after we got home from my nephew’s wedding, I made significant progress on the music quilt. So much so, that this morning I only had 8 lines of stitching to complete the quilting. I’ve done that, and the quilt has passed Quality Control. We’ve also settled for a name for the quilt –  Music Lessons.

I’ve printed the label so it will have time to dry before I wash the quilt. Now, I’m off to make the binding, then I’m going to have to boot the cat off the quilt so I can square it up. Seven does look comfortable though.

This past week my focus was on quilting the Double Wedding Ring and Music Quilt, so the only fabric used was for the weekly Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler block. Check out Judy‘s page to see if anyone elses stashes is shrinking.

Wind-Up for the Weekend

This is a 3-day weekend for me, so even though I’m going to my nephew’s wedding on Saturday, I’ll still get in two days of quilting – at least that’s the plan. My Wind-Up for the Weekend that Tamara is hosting consists of more of the same. Thirty minute spots of hand quilting on the Double Wedding Ring and finishing the quilting on the music quilt. If I don’t get my 30 minutes in Saturday, I’ll try to make it with 2 sessions Sunday or Monday. Meanwhile the second half of the quilting on the music quilt seems to be going faster. I’m not sure why, but I’m not going to argue.

To cap off my weekend, Monday night is my quilt guild meeting. Kaw Valley Quilt Guild member, Carol Jones will be discussing her new book “Tile Quilt Revival: Reinventing a Forgotten Form”. She co-authored the book with Bobbie Finley. It should be an interesting program.

I might just make my self imposed deadline of Monday on this quilt. The first half of the quilting is done. Now I’ll do the diagonal lines the other direction.

Quilting Accountability.

Last week the goals were get the borders on Ladder to the Stars – http://knitnoid.wordpress.com/2010/01/10/stash-report-4/.

Piece the weekly Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler Blocks – Done.

Start machine quilting the Music Quilt – 1/4 of the way through.

Start hand quilting the Double Wedding Ring, 30 minutes – 1 hour in so far this week.

In the next 7 days, I want to finish the Music Quilt, and get in 3 1/2 hours of quilting on the DWR.  This week’s SBS BOW is already finished, but there will be a new one next week.  After the music quilt is done, I’ll finish up Step 4 of Carolina Christmas.
