Pinwheel Party is Finished

I started on this quilt when I got back from the GSQA POE event.  Then after making the pinwheel blocks I realized there wasn’t enough contrast. As this quilt was made to showcase the border fabric I didn’t want the lack of contrast in the pinwheels to distract.  I’m not certain that the Red Grunge isn’t taking center stage but I was short on time to find anything else.

The green backing was picked to go with the original fabric choices. I was able to finish and deliver it Friday evening.

  • Pattern:  Pinwheel Party from Quick As A Wink 3-Yard Quilts
  • Size: 43″ x 61″
  • Thread: 40 wt Glide in Mercury – 1 bobbin
  • Quilting Design: Groundcover enlarged to 18″ with -3.5 row gap.

Saturday I loaded this customer quilt and was reminded that my machine really doesn’t like Omni thread.  I asked my customer if I could switch the thread to Glide and she said I could.  I then knocked the quilt out in no time.

While it was stitching, I made this pillowcase to replace the one I made 10 years ago.

What I’m Working on Wednesday – 7/2/25

Not a whole lot has changed since yesterday’s post.  Yesterday evening there were thunderstorms, so I couldn’t turn on the long arm.  I did get the backing loaded and the batting cut.  After the storms blew through, I fired up the computer to begin working on the quilting design.

Apparently this is the first time I’ve attempted to do and E2E since I finally upgraded the Mach3 software.  Notice the blank spots at the top and bottom of the quilt layout.  I tried several times, then picked a different design that I know I’ve used.  Same thing occurred. Finally I figured out that the clip connect setting got reset with the upgrade.  I was then able to create the quilting profile, but I decided it was too late to start quilting.  Assuming there are no more storms, I’ll get this quilted tonight.

Quilting and Piecing

The last of customer quilts is done. I had to learn a new skill  – masking. That’s when stitching out an edge to edge design you mask a spot you don’t want to stitch.

It’s not the best picture, but the “straight” lines is the boundary where I told the computer to skip.

Once I got past the masked area, I was able to do a bit of piecing.  These are the rest of the pieces for “Louisa Lattice”.  I also finished one Easy Breezy block.

40 Day Challenge – Day 3

Yes, I skipped Day 2.  I was playing with the Sherwin-Williams app. My room needs updating  – starting with ripping out the old powder blue carpet. The curtains are from when we moved into the house 21 years ago. I’d like something dramatic, but whatever I go with paint wise it has to go with my quilts and the bedframe can’t blend into the wall. Merlot may be the ticket.

In addition to these two quilts (Egg Money an Eleanor Burns pattern  & En Provence a Quiltville Mystery quilt) I will also have my black, blue, gray & white Frolic (also a Quiltville Mystery quilt) and a Hancock Fabrics BOM which I’m enlarging.

So what did I get done on Day 3? I bound the Customer quilt (delivering it Sunday afternoon) and made a pillowcase to go with it.

I also bound Sister Swap # 3.

That leaves the following:

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.
  • Narragansett Blues
  • Sister Swap # 3 – The binding is made just needs to be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Then & Now
  • Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • Tablerunner – Finally figured out what I am going to use
  • The quilt with the striped backing needs a label and delivered
  • I’m behind on my Star Studded BOM. I have fabric for 11 or 12 large blocks and 23 6-inch blocks.
  • The log cabin quilt needs to be quilted bound and labeled.
  • The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top.
  • Although not quilting, there are 9 pair of pants which need to be shortened.
  • Bonus #1 – Pillowcases:
    • the customer quilt 6/6/2020
    • Allietaire
    • Narragansett Blues
    • Log cabin quilt (2)
  • Bonus #2: Pillowcases for quilts already completed
    • Christmas Crazy 8s
    • On Ringo Lake
    • En Provence (2)
    • Carolina Chain
    • Good Fortune
  • Bonus #3: Quilt, bind, label and make pillowcase (2) for Frolic.

My plan for tomorrow is to tackle the first pair of pants and bind the tablerunner.

40 Day Challenge – Day 1

I have the binding attached to the customer quilt.  This quilt is 96 x 107, so there is a lot of binding to do. I’m using Susie’s Magic Binding which means I should be able to finish it tonight.
