Quilting and Stuff by Knitnoid

Sisters Swap

Back when I first started quilting, I was involved in a number of block swaps.  These three quilts are the results of a 2005 swap hosted by Cotton Patch Quilt Shoppe in Tawas City, Michigan. 35 quilters participated in this swap. The blocks sat for years until I determined how to set them.

I opted to split them into 3 groups and pulled an orphan block from my orphan block box so I could make 3 quilts with 12 blocks each.

That’s my swap block in the bottom center.

The blocks came from all over the world.  The top left block is from Australia.

This quilt has my extra block. It’s the top right.

All three of the quilt tops were completed the week of May 25th.  They were quilted the same week on my Innova. I used the computerized Edge-to-Edge pattern All Leaf Simple by Sweet Dreams Quilting Studio. My thread was Glide Basil. The batting Legacy 80/20.  They were finished using Susie’s Magic Binding. The quilts each finished at 60 x 76 prior to washing.   The 3 quilts were donated to Hope House via the Candlelight Quilters in Raytown, Missouri. Due to Covid-19 I dropped them off at Show-Me-Quilting.

40 Day Challenge – Day 23

Today’s big project was hanging quilts to photograph.  These are the 3 quilts I made from the Sisters’s Swap back in 2005. Binding the 3rd one was part of this challenge. After the challenge is over, I’ll do an in-depth post on these quilts.

This weekend I’m sewing in the living room as my sister has the long arm going and there really isn’t enough room for two to sew in there. I was late getting started, but I managed to get 3 of my Frolic blocks completed. That brings the # to 9.  Since I plan to enlarge the quilt, I’m not sure how many I need to make.  Perhaps I’ll figure that out over the weekend.

40 Day Challenge – The Halfway Point

Yes, Tuesday marked the 1/2 way point in my self-imposed 40 day challenge.

Here’s a recap.

  1. Bind the table runner, Narragansett Blues, and a customer quilt. Bonus pillowcase.
  2. Catch up on Star Studded BOM (still need to do the June block), bind Sister Swap # 3 and Then & Now.
  3. Bonus pillow case for On Ringo Lake, quilt Log Cabin quilt,  Good Fortune bonus pillowcase
  4. Not pictured – Hem 8 pair of pants with cuffs for my niece’s wedding next month.

I still need to bind the log cabin quilt. Sewing the binding strips together was today’s progress, and I hope to have the quilt finished before the end of the week.  This weekend my sister is coming over to use both the long arm and my sewing machine to attach binding to quilts, so I’ll be using my Genie to resume piecing Frolic. Then next week, I’ll see about binding Allietare.

Looking at what is left on my list, I’m pretty sure I can meet all of my goals, with the possible exception of the Frolic top.  But if I miss it, it shouldn’t be by much. Then it will be on to the next challenge — which I’m already thinking about.

40 Day Challenge – Day 3

Yes, I skipped Day 2.  I was playing with the Sherwin-Williams app. My room needs updating  – starting with ripping out the old powder blue carpet. The curtains are from when we moved into the house 21 years ago. I’d like something dramatic, but whatever I go with paint wise it has to go with my quilts and the bedframe can’t blend into the wall. Merlot may be the ticket.

In addition to these two quilts (Egg Money an Eleanor Burns pattern  & En Provence a Quiltville Mystery quilt) I will also have my black, blue, gray & white Frolic (also a Quiltville Mystery quilt) and a Hancock Fabrics BOM which I’m enlarging.

So what did I get done on Day 3? I bound the Customer quilt (delivering it Sunday afternoon) and made a pillowcase to go with it.

I also bound Sister Swap # 3.

That leaves the following:

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.
  • Narragansett Blues
  • Sister Swap # 3 – The binding is made just needs to be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Then & Now
  • Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • Tablerunner – Finally figured out what I am going to use
  • The quilt with the striped backing needs a label and delivered
  • I’m behind on my Star Studded BOM. I have fabric for 11 or 12 large blocks and 23 6-inch blocks.
  • The log cabin quilt needs to be quilted bound and labeled.
  • The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top.
  • Although not quilting, there are 9 pair of pants which need to be shortened.
  • Bonus #1 – Pillowcases:
    • the customer quilt 6/6/2020
    • Allietaire
    • Narragansett Blues
    • Log cabin quilt (2)
  • Bonus #2: Pillowcases for quilts already completed
    • Christmas Crazy 8s
    • On Ringo Lake
    • En Provence (2)
    • Carolina Chain
    • Good Fortune
  • Bonus #3: Quilt, bind, label and make pillowcase (2) for Frolic.

My plan for tomorrow is to tackle the first pair of pants and bind the tablerunner.

40 Day Challenge

I’d like to get back to blogging about my quilting. It seems that I generally just post to Facebook anymore.  In one of my Facebook groups someone asked “What are you working on?” For me this morphed into this 40 Day challenge. My goal is to get everything on this list done.

This first picture is a stack of quilts that need to be bound.

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.
  • Narragansett Blues
  • Sister Swap # 3 – The binding is made just needs to be attached and stitched down
  • Then & Now
  • Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • Tablerunner – Finally figured out what I am going to use

Believe it or not there’s more work in this pile than the binding pile.

The quilt with the striped backing needs a label and delivered

I’m behind on my Star Studded BOM. I have fabric for 11 or 12 large blocks and 23 6-inch blocks.

The log cabin quilt needs to be quilted bound and labeled.

The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top.

Although not quilting, there are 9 pair of pants which need to be shortened. This is driving the 40 days.

Bonus #1: Pillowcases for the customer quilt, Allietaire, Narragansett Blues, and the log cabin quilt (2)

Bonus #2: Pillowcases for quilts already completed – Christmas Crazy 8s, On Ringo Lake, En Provence (2), Carolina Chain, Good Fortune

Bonus #3: Quilt, bind, label and make pillowcase (2) for Frolic.

It should be an interesting 40 -45 days.
