What’s On My Design Wall

Today it’s more like ‘What’s Hanging From My Design Shelves”.  I’ve got one more of the Flying Dutchmen blocks ready to do, but it’s not the next one in line.  So, two more blocks to be sashed and attached then I can sew the center of the quilt together.

A little over a week ago I pulled out the slip of paper which said “Make 18 Square in  Square blocks”  – which was the next step on this quilt.  I’ve done a bit more than that, and currently its my plan to finish the top before I pull another slip.  I’ve not abandoned the bag, but it has done it’s job.  I was able to kick-start my quilting this month.

It’s another finish.  This my UFO for August off of the “To Be Quilted” list.  Now on to those red and white square in a square blocks.  The fabric is washed and there is no other pressing quilting commitment.

What’s on my Design Wall

I’ve completed the blocks for True Friends.  It is the second UFO for July.  All I needed to do to get to this point was sew one seam on each block.  Since Judy is not posting the UFO Challenge # until Wednesday I thought I’d see if I could get this one knocked off my list.

What can I say – I’m still debating the quilting plan for the Crossword Puzzle quilt — at least that’s what I’m telling myself.  I think I’m really just delaying sandwiching the quilt.  It’s big about 83 x 90, so I’m going to have to shift around tables to get enough support for the quilt.

What’s On My Design Wall

Today there’s a little bit of everything on my design wall/ironing board.  I’ve had a bit of a problem settling down and working on just one thing.

At the top is the Crossword Puzzle quilt, which has been fixed and now needs to be quilted.  I haven’t totally decided how I’m going to quilt it, but I should make the backing.  It’s the plaid that sticking out around the edges.  Yes, two long seams will need to be matched.  The fabric was pressed this weekend.

Another easy “finish” is Candy Sunflower Seeds.  This got set aside in May or June and it just needs the borders.  The top and border fabric surfaced while I was cleaning this weekend and it’s been pressed.  Now if I can only remember if I was planning on a narrow border before the brown outer border.  At least the stars ‘float’ so I don’t have to worry about them disappearing into the border.

The red is the mystery quilt pattern I was testing a couple of weeks ago.  I have the straight line quilting done and now need to add the holly leaves.  7 sets of 3 to go.

That yellow, green  and fireworks is Fireworks Over John Deere.  It is also this month’s UFO to be quilted.  It measures 45 1/2″ wide and of course my backing fabric is only a tad over 40″ wide.  So, I’ve got to make a backing.

I’ve got four of John Deere pillow panels and I’m considering using one or moe along with the fireworks fabric to make the backing.  So, naturally, after I got the fabric and panels pressed I just left it on my ironing board while I make a decision.

Finally, believe it or not, I did a bit of hand quilting.  Finished up 2 more hearts and moved the hoop for the first time in several months.  I’m not sure when the last time I worked on the quilt.

To see if others are bouncing all over the place, check out the links at Patchwork Times.  In the meantime, I’ll see if I can focus on just one or two projects.

What’s on my Design Wall

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been piecing.  In fact I finished piecing the project Saturday evening and started quilting it yesterday.  But it’s a mystery quilt and if I show it on my blog it won’t be a mystery.  So, I’m showing you the fabric I used.  The gold is the background, the red the main color and the green the accent.   If you’ve followed my blog, you know I’m a scrappy kind of gal, but this time, just three fabrics are perfect.

While you are waiting for me to reveal the mystery (it will be a while) check out the links over at Patchwork Times for more inspiration.

What’s On My Design Wall

Since we just got back from a 12 day road trip through Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, I have nothing on my design wall.  So, Here’s the fabric I’m going to use to make my niece a bag.  The green fabric is for a quilt for my nephew’s stuffed frog.

What’s On My Design Wall

There’s nothing on my design wall/floor/table today. I’ve finished* all of my challenge quilts.

What’s on my Design Wall

Saturday I got the top left quadrant sewn together.  Sunday I received a call.  One of the names is spelled wrong!  So, my husband and I went out shopping.  When we got home we put our heads together and found a solution.  Now all I need to do is finish stitching the last few letters then get them sewn into the top.

I will NOT quilt this before the wedding Saturday.  We are going to hang it in the reception hall and let everyone proof read it!

What’s on my Design Wall

We interrupt this quilting marathon  ( Complete 10 quilts between March 16th – June 22nd) for a new quilt top – Candy Sunflower Seeds (I’m using the pattern The Chain Event by Dorothy Young).

Say what?!!

After the disaster I created quilting this quilt a few weeks ago,  I had to back up and punt.

Thanks to S for ripping the quilting out.  Anyway, I decided I needed to use a template on my curves and quilting in the setting squares and triangles.  Since I hadn’t done that, I figured a “test” quilt was in order.  Thus the new quilt top.

Of course, now I don’t think I need a test quilt.  Yesterday I quilted the Neutral Strip Twist and I did half way decent considering I hadn’t done any template/ruler work previously.

Since I’m reporting, here’s the status of the marathon quilts.

1 – Dragonflies — Completed 3/29

2 – Miniature Ohio Star – Completed 4/19

3 – Crossword Puzzle – Still piecing – need at least the top 6/3

4 – BQ2 – Needs label, otherwise finished 5/14

5 – Summertime – 8 inches of binding left to stitch down, label attached

6 – Neutral Strip Twist – needs border quilted, etc

7 – The Chain Event – needs quilting (appt on 6/5)

8 – Victoria’s Rose – needs border quilted, etc

9 – Kansas Spirit – needs quilting (will do on DSM)

10 – Ribbon Candy – binding attached

There’s still a lot to do, but I’m confident that with the three-day weekend coming up I’ll be able to get it all done by my deadline.

Follow the links over at Patchwork Times – I’m sure you’ll find great inspiration and quilters who aren’t as crazy as me.
