Design Wall Monday – 4/5/21

Since this past July, I’ve made 140 Easy Breezy blocks – the Quiltville Leader/Ender project for 2020-2021. Yesterday afternoon, I decided I’d make two smaller quilts and found this caramel colored fabric in my stash. The first top is complete. I’ll try to get it loaded on the frame later this week.

As for the second quilt, I have a slightly lighter colored fabric, but I think I may dig deeper. Since I decided to make 2 quilts, I need to make 4 more Easy Breezy blocks.

As for Shimmer.  I may have to break down and buy more fabric.

Yes, I messed up again!  This goes to show you shouldn’t sew when you are tired.  The good news(?) is these 2 messed units are the same blue that is in the other messed up block, and I’ve found at least 3 shops online with the fabric in stock.  Given I only need 1/4 yard of the fabric, I think I’m going to wait to order it after I get the rest of the blocks made.  I only want to pay for shipping once.

Be sure to stop by Small Quilts & Doll Quilts to see what others are working on.

40 Day Challenge – Day 27

If I was making Frolic as written it would be time to move on to the setting triangles.  Instead, I’ve cut neutral squares to add to the setting triangle kits and have counted the number of 4-patches I need to make to make more blocks. Eventually I’ll need to cut more fabric for the setting triangles, but I’ll worry about that another day. The blocks are not in their final location. But if you see any turned pieces, please let me know.

Today I also decided on the fabric combination for my Allietare pillowcase. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll make it – or at least get the fabric cut so I can put it away.

This is what’s left on my list. With the 3 day holiday, I might just get the list completed in the next 13 days.

  • Bind Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top. Started with 5 blocks I need 41, 16 side setting triangles. 4 corners and the pieced borders for my enlarged quilt.

40 Day Challenge – Day 25

Alleitare is finished!  This was the 2015 Quiltville Mystery Quilt designed by Bonnie Hunter.  I finally got the border on it a few years ago at a quilt retreat and got it quilted before I went to Shipshewana 2 years ago. It sat in the To Be Bound stack because I didn’t know if I could do both a scalloped border and use Susie’s Magic Binding.  This afternoon I decided to just go for it.

Other tasks today included making another 6 Frolic blocks and delivering the quilt that needed the label.  Since I plan to make Frolic one block wider and longer 41 blocks and 16 side setting triangles. I now have 17 blocks completed. There will be more cutting of fabric before the top is completed.

40 Day Challenge – The Halfway Point

Yes, Tuesday marked the 1/2 way point in my self-imposed 40 day challenge.

Here’s a recap.

  1. Bind the table runner, Narragansett Blues, and a customer quilt. Bonus pillowcase.
  2. Catch up on Star Studded BOM (still need to do the June block), bind Sister Swap # 3 and Then & Now.
  3. Bonus pillow case for On Ringo Lake, quilt Log Cabin quilt,  Good Fortune bonus pillowcase
  4. Not pictured – Hem 8 pair of pants with cuffs for my niece’s wedding next month.

I still need to bind the log cabin quilt. Sewing the binding strips together was today’s progress, and I hope to have the quilt finished before the end of the week.  This weekend my sister is coming over to use both the long arm and my sewing machine to attach binding to quilts, so I’ll be using my Genie to resume piecing Frolic. Then next week, I’ll see about binding Allietare.

Looking at what is left on my list, I’m pretty sure I can meet all of my goals, with the possible exception of the Frolic top.  But if I miss it, it shouldn’t be by much. Then it will be on to the next challenge — which I’m already thinking about.

40 Day Challenge Day 9

Yesterday my sister came over to quilt a baby quilt, so I had to clear off the quilting machine, again. Although I don’t think I’ll leave the leaf of my sewing table up on a regular basis, it did prove to be a great place to stack the various projects I have going. From the front to the back. On the bottom of the first pile is Allietare. On top of it is the binding fabric, the baby/doll quilt to bind and fabric for the bonus pillowcases. The middle pile is the quit which I need to label and the logcabin quilt. Leaning against the last pile is my Star Studded BOM. The last pile are quilts which need to be washed and photographed. Next to the sewing machine is pair #6 of the pants which need to be hemmed.

I only got one pair of pants hemmed yesterday. I got a bit distracted.

Acrylic Pour videos have been popping up on my Facebook timeline. I saw one by Mixed Media Girl where she used supplies from the Dollar Store  and thought that would be an inexpensive way to try out the technique. This is my first attempt.

Today after I run to Fedex to ship a package, I’m going to do my best to finish the hemming so I can cross it off my list.  I may load the log cabin quilt and while it’s quilting I think I’ll work on the BOM. It would be nice if I had a few more blocks done before I picked up this month’s kit.

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.
  • Narragansett Blues 6/11/2020
  • Sister Swap # 3 – The binding is made just needs to be attached and stitched down 6/6/2020
  • Then & Now 6/7/2020
  • Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • Tablerunner – Finally figured out what I am going to use – 6/7/2020
  • The quilt with the striped backing needs a label and delivered
  • I’m behind on my Star Studded BOM. I have fabric for 11 or 12 large blocks and 23 6-inch blocks.
  • The log cabin quilt needs to be quilted bound and labeled.
  • The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top.
  • Although not quilting, there are 9 8 pair of pants which need to be shortened.
    • 2 pair hemmed 6/8/2020
    • 2 pair hemmed 6/9/2020
    • 1 pair hemmed 6/12/2020

    • Good Fortune
  • Bonus #3: Quilt, bind, label and make pillowcase (2) for Frolic.

40 Day Challenge

I’d like to get back to blogging about my quilting. It seems that I generally just post to Facebook anymore.  In one of my Facebook groups someone asked “What are you working on?” For me this morphed into this 40 Day challenge. My goal is to get everything on this list done.

This first picture is a stack of quilts that need to be bound.

  • A customer’s quilt – binding needs to be pressed, then can be attached and stitched down
  • Allietaire – plan do do both scallops and a 2 color binding.
  • Narragansett Blues
  • Sister Swap # 3 – The binding is made just needs to be attached and stitched down
  • Then & Now
  • Baby 4-Patch Stacked Posies
  • Tablerunner – Finally figured out what I am going to use

Believe it or not there’s more work in this pile than the binding pile.

The quilt with the striped backing needs a label and delivered

I’m behind on my Star Studded BOM. I have fabric for 11 or 12 large blocks and 23 6-inch blocks.

The log cabin quilt needs to be quilted bound and labeled.

The blue, black and white quilt is my Frolic the goal is to finish the top.

Although not quilting, there are 9 pair of pants which need to be shortened. This is driving the 40 days.

Bonus #1: Pillowcases for the customer quilt, Allietaire, Narragansett Blues, and the log cabin quilt (2)

Bonus #2: Pillowcases for quilts already completed – Christmas Crazy 8s, On Ringo Lake, En Provence (2), Carolina Chain, Good Fortune

Bonus #3: Quilt, bind, label and make pillowcase (2) for Frolic.

It should be an interesting 40 -45 days.
